At the Bridge for a year today

Mom's heart is a little sad today. One year ago today, I passed to the Rainbow Bridge. Mom still gets teary-eyed sometimes when she thinks of me. Especially today. When I was struggling to hang on to my life so I could stay with her, she was struggling to let me go to the Bridge where I would be in pain no more.

Mom says, "I still love you, Fuzz Face. One day I will be there, too. Wait for me."

The gas station pup

Near our home there lives a stray dog we call the gas station dog. She is a stray, and has been hanging around this gas station for 6 MONTHS. She is well-cared for currently as far as food and toys, but winter is approaching and she needs shelter and a loving home. The manager of the gas station is an animal lover. He has been around her the most, but still he never gets close enough to touch her. He feeds her every day, but still she is wary of everyone. She'll let you get only so close, and then she gets up and leaves. She doesn't run. She just walks away when you get too close.

Dozens of people bring bags of dog food, toys and other items to the gas station for the cute little black dog. She is sooo loved. Still this is no good place for a furbaby to live. Better than just wandering maybe, but still no good.

She curls up next to the gas pumps and sleeps most of the day. She's very "street wise," and even looks both ways before crossing the busy five lane road to get to a large grassy area across the road. She once had a problem with one eye. It appears to have healed. Maybe the bad eye was from abuse, maybe it was from an incident with a car...no one really knows.

There are many, many people willing to step up and adopt this precious baby, but she trusts NO ONE. Several captures have been attempted. A veterinarian put tranquilizers in her food. She ate the food and ran away from the vet. She did sleep more than usual the next day, but it didn't work the way we wanted it to. She won't be fooled by a baited humane-capture cage. I have heard through the angel grapevine that she ran away after a vet and police officer darted her with a tranquilizer gun.

This is so heartbreaking, and she is such a sweet dog. She plays alone with the toys people bring her. I've watched her throw her toys in the air and catch them. The police officer sooooo wants to adopt this beautiful baby, and get her the medical attention we are sure she needs.

Mom has gone for a visit every day this week. Another woman is doing the same thing at another time during the day. Mom sits in the parking lot usually by a gas pump. The dog appears to be more comfortable there. Mom first laid a treat about 5 feet from her. Every day Mom puts the treat a little closer.

Mom doesn't look her in the eye, but talks gently to her the whole time . The dog will come, and get the treat. She'll go about 10 or 12 feet away from Mom. She lays down and eats the treat. She will drink water from a bowl close to Mom. Then she will lay down close by. She appears to be napping, but she is listening to everything Mom says. She knows where Mom is at all times. She appears to be relaxed around Mom, yet if Mom makes a move to get closer to her she simply gets up and walks away.

I made Mom post this on a dogster forum so everyone could bark in their suggestions. We are patient, and I'm soooo happy to have my little angel paws in the thick of this. Oooooo....I'm hoppin' around!!!

Stay tuned for updates and possibly photos. We're trying to think of a good name for her. She deserves sooooo much more than gas station dog.

Well I've been tagged by my friend Jester so here we go!!

Here are the rules (Hint: Copy and paste the rules so you don't have to type them again):

Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their Diary the rules & their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary, or, send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!

So here are 7 fun facts about me...

1. Dogster saved my Mom from grief when I passed to the Rainbow Bridge!
2. I liked to stare at my people!
3. I have 1 rotten sister, Cinnamon.
4. I loved sauerkraut, although I could clear a room after I ate it! ;-)

Shayla's bedtime story from Aunt Kenyon

I came with the house mom and dad bought 11 years ago. When they first moved in with me, I had this little routine walk I would make to the barnyard every evening to check my pee mail. It's no big secret now, so I'll just be honest and say I like really nasty things that make my people gag. So when I came back to the door one night, dad just automatically opened the door to let me in. hehehe Dad didn't check to see what I had in my little furry cheeks. It was late, the 11 pm news was on. hehehe I darted right past him, and snuck a little gift into the bedroom and left it for the humans in the middle of the bedroom floor. hehehe It didn't take long for me to know mom had found my gift. She screamed. I hopped. I was so excited. I ran around in circles, and arfed. It was simply my best gift ever until mom started gagging. She screamed something to my dad in between gags about some nasty maggots in the bedroom in a wad of unidentifiable shtufff. (more gagging) Then I heard dad say OMD the shtufff has a beak! hehehe It was so much fun to watch my humans clean the carpet in the middle of the night! One of my proudest moments. A little arts and crafts kind of homemade gift for the humans. Touching ain't it? Well, it really is the thought that counts! Sadly, I never got to come in the house again without having a cheek check.

Fuzz face memories

When my mom and dad bought their home 11 years ago my dad jokingly told the sellers of the home to leave their little dog here when they moved. They did. They left my little fuzzy self here with an elderly neighbor to care for me until mom and dad moved in. Well, the elderly neighbor did the best he could, but he'd never owned a pet, and really didn't know what to do with me. He's a really nice man. He did keep my belly full and gave me an OK place to sleep.

When my folks moved in to this house, dad said it would be OK as long as I slept downstairs in the basement in a cushy little bed, but not in the main part of the house. That lasted about a week. Then dad said it would be OK for me to sleep upstairs as long as my cushy little bed stayed in the kitchen. That lasted a day or two. Then dad said it would be OK for me to sleep in the living room as long as mom never let me on the furniture. That lasted an hour or so. Then dad said it would be OK for me to get on the furniture as long as mom and dad were in the house with me. Hehehe, you guessed it...that didn't last long either. Dad even built a little carpeted step so I could get on the furniture by myself. Then dad said it would be OK for me to sleep in my little cushy bed in the bedroom next to mom and dad's bed. Guess what? Yep, the next night I slept between my people in the big bed, and that lasted 11 years!!! Then when mom adopted sister Cinnamon, dad said it would be OK if she slept outside in the doghouse. I said, "Oooooo, here we go again!" Loving arfs, Kenyon

I lost a special friend today
the kind you can't replace,
and looking at her empy bed
I still can see her face.

I know she's in a special place
our Lord has for such friends,
Where meadows, fields and flowers
help make them strong and whole again.

I know she's watching over me
She's with me when I cry,
So with one more kiss on her beloved head
I told my dear friend goodbye.

Pooting ghosts

I love to spend weekends at our lakehouse. There aren't any neighbor dogs there, so sister Cini and I have the run of the place. I'm pretty sure there are ghost dogs at our lakehouse which is located directly across the road from a historical cemetery. Ghosts frequent those places, right? Anyway, I'm in my yard, minding my own business, looking for goose poop or dead worms to roll on when it happened. Approximately a 12" behind my head something pooted. Well, of course I was startled and jerked my head around to see what was behind me. I saw nothing. Time after time this happened. Each time I was startled to find nothing behind me. Poot, then nothing. Poot, then nothing. I'm certain that we have an infestation of pooting ghosts. I can't find the troublesome invaders, but I think I'm going to ask Mom and Dad to hire a dog whisperer to ferret out these invisible and offensive critters. Gotta go take a nap. More later...

Buddy, the neighbor's black lab

There's a big old black lab that comes to visit my Mom and Dad every evening. I've tried to tell them he's worthless, but they scratch his ears and give him treats despite my protests. Buddy weighs about 75 or 80 pounds, but I'm not gonna let that stop me. If Mom and Dad won't listen to me, I'll discipline that boy myself. I am quite petite in case you didn't notice, but I am 11.9 pounds of pure terrier attitude. It's OK for Buddy to lay quietly on the porch like a big black doormat, but occasionally he gets too happy and his tail gets out of hand. When that happens I bite him. Yes, I have to hop to reach him. No, I don't have very many teeth left, but that boy knows I mean business. He flattens out like a rag doll. If I bite him again, he usually pees on himself. Like I told you, don't mess with me. Even a polite girl like me has her breaking point!
