Jessie's #1 pet peeve is going to the doctor.

Arrival Story:
After my beloved Sami (14 yr old German Shepherd/Collie mix) died in Feb of 2002, I decided to go back to the same pound I adopted Sam from 14 years earlier to find my new best friend (this pound is known for putting many wonderful dogs to sleep, so I wanted to save another one from that). When I saw Jessie in one of the indoor pens, she immediately caught my eye. She was so beautiful and looked so sad. I saw that she had a pink card on her run door, which meant that dog had bitten someone. It turned out she had bitten a child, and was due to be euthanized in 2 days. I looked around at some other dogs because this scared me, but I didn't feel as strong a connection with the other dogs as I did with Jessie. I left that day empty handed, and very upset. I returned to the same shelter the next day to see another dog I had seen the day before. When I was in the lobby, one of the animal control officer's asked what kind of dog I was looking for, and I told him, "any dog that is housebroken and good with cats, that needs a second chance at a good life". He immediately told me about Jessie. It turned out he was the one who picked her up from her previous owner, and he explained that the child she had bitten acted like more of an animal than any dog he had ever encountered, and the child most likely tortured Jessie for some time before she finally fought back. The family signed papers for Jessie to be euthanized immediately, but thank god for her this ACO saw she had potential if the right person adopted her and fought for her to have 5 days to get adopted before being euthanized right away. I took Jessie for a walk and she seemed very sweet, so we went home. Jessie had some fear aggression issues which took a while to work out, but 6 months later, after two training courses and lots of love and reassurance, she was already a different dog. We are her 3rd home in only the first year of her wonder she needed to be reassured : ) Jessie was also dog aggressive, as she is very dominant, but now allows younger, smaller dogs into her home, lets them play with her toys, and lately she has even shared a food bowl with some : ) I think Jessie and I are very lucky to of found each other, as I don't think many people would have stuck it out with her like I did and worked with her on her issues, and she got me through a very hard time when I lost Sam, and continues to protect our house, myself, and everyone else in our "pack".

Since adopting Jessie, I have dedicated my life to saving more dogs who are in the same situation she was. I founded Mutts-N-More Rescue in May of 2002, a month after adopting Jessie. We now have over 50 volunteers and have saved over 600 lives! Jessie is the mascot for Mutts-N-More Rescue! For more information, please visit our website at
