Arrival Story:
Charlie and two other dogs (now in homes in Massachusetts) came from rural Tennessee where they were tossed out by the family that owned them on a country road in an area where people drive by and shoot at the many abandoned dogs for sport. Someone found out when the family publicly bragged that they had "gotten rid of the dogs". A wonderful woman named Villa and her friends captured the dogs and, along with other abandoned dogs that they work tirelessly to save from the high-kill shelters there, sent them up in a specially equipped horse trailer to the organizers of Great Dog Rescue New England. http://members.petfinder.org/~MA22 4/ When I found Charlie on the internet through petfinder.org, his picture was of a very sad little dog that hadn't been brushed or washed (see picture with purple leash). By the time that I drove to meet Charlie, Villa and the wonderful people at Great Dog Rescue had transformed him into the most fabulous looking little dog I had ever seen. Everyone stops me during our walks to ask about his breed (unknown!) and tell me that he is an awesome looking dog. Charlie has such a wonderful demeanor, loves everyone and everything, and truly knows that he has been given a second chance at a better life!
