Arrival Story:
Sacia has a very interesting story. I was told by the shelter staff that she broke free from her previous owners and was picked up by animal control, she was only 8 months old and had very recently given birth to a litter of puppies. She knew Spanish commands and was extremely hand shy, it also appeared as though she had been burned with cigarettes. Unfortunately her owner came to retrieve her shortly and the shelter staff was forced to return her. Several days later while one of the shelter attendants was outside they saw Sacia coming towards them. She had broken free from her bad situation again and ran away back to the shelter! At this point the shelter staff decided to take action against her owners, there was a legal custody battle for Sacia and the Humane Societies won. I met Sacia while walking thru the shelter 7 years ago, looking for a dog for my friend. She was in a pen by herself and the sun was shining in her eyes. She was beautiful. As I approached her, she squished her body against the fencing so I could pet her. I was instantly smitten. We spent a couple hours together before I (or should I say she) decided that she needed to come home with me. Sacia has been my inspiration for starting in animal rescue. I now try to concentrate on the adoption of American Pit Bull Terriers, the breed that needs our help the most these days.
