Arrival Story:
Smokey was surrendered to San Francisco Animal Control when he was nine years old, simply because he had become inconvenient. His first nine years were spent stuck in a back yard with little attention, poor food, and very little quality of life. As an old dog with health problems, Smokey was deemed "unadoptable" and was scheduled for euthasia the day that Jeff rescued him. Although Smokey probably accrued more than six thousand dollars in veterinary costs during the three years he was part of the family, he more than repaid that debt through his unwavering devotion and sweet disposition. Even though Smokey is no longer with us, we wanted him to be part of the Dogster community in the hopes that others will consider adopting an old dog and giving him or her some special last years.

Bio:
Smokey was rescued by Jeff Ward, a fierce defender of off-leash recreation in San Francisco. Smokey liked to eat. During his stay with us he ate: a two-pound can of peanuts; an entire large box of Iams biscuits (unopened); four (yes, four!) large bars of Ivory soap.
