Arrival Story: On January 28th 2006, My new mommy and daddy adopted me. It was a cold night when I was rescued from Oklahoma at about 4 weeks old on the 14th of January. I lived outside in a barn with my mother and siblings and other doggies. It was dirty and gross and really disgusting. The place I was born into was called a " puppy mill"! It had been shut-down and the doggies were rescued that were there. They knew my actual birthday...b/c it was marked on my collar. But most don't realize, it ALSO SAID, not to be sold, to be used as a gulp, the female word for a doggie that is to have puppies.
Mommy got a call from a good pal! Who said she had a doxie, she had been asked to foster, in the rescue she works for and asked my mommy, would you like to adopt her, she is going to need a lot of extra TLC and someone who will always LOVE her. Because I would probably always be tiny and could have health problems because of my size.
Well mommy said she'd love to adopt me but due to circumstances beyond her control, it be best to foster me instead at the moment. The lady said, that was fine and so the journey went, mommy and daddy drove halfway to meet the friend, and bring me back to the northeast to live. Well as the story goes, I must have WON her heart because within 24 hours she was calling and saying she wanted me and couldn't part with me. Yep, the friend knew this would happen because she has this heart that is so huge and cares for all animals.
My first moments in our new home, were so scary. I didn't know what to think, I mean here is a lady that is a little crazy, loves elmo and is talking doggie talk to me and giving me all kinds of love. I didn't know how to react but to um, piddle on her lap, go poop on her bed the first night, and anything you could think of I did..but she had so much patience and all she said was it's okay you are scared: I LOVE YOU! She said, she said those 3 special words and gave me a kiss and cuddled with me after cleaning up all the messes, I made. She told me not to worry, a mess is just a mess and you my friend, are one sweet dachshund. I was a little scared, she'd not want to keep me but that is not the case and she had more love to share than a puppy could even realize at the time.
She had made arrangements for me to see the vet within 24 hours. :-k lady...do u want to be poked and probed? But I knew why, I had to go. She even had me spayed. She said, no more doxie puppies need to be born. I'll just keep rescuing other doxie pups. I gave her that look, that said, um lady I do want to remain the baby. In other words, saying: I know you want to adopt more doxies but mommy can't I just remain the princess the baby but I know my mommy will need to adopt other animals because other animals will always need a caring home but I will also always be the princess.
that my friends is a partial story of my arrival, but we have spared you the awful conditions of where I was and just hope that one day a puppy mill will not exist.
Roxie told her story: Now it's my turn, How did Roxie become the guardian of ME: I think everything happens for a reason and Roxie coming into our home was for a reason. She has helped me more than most people could realize and I'd share a lot of that if anyone is interested send a pmail. But in reality, the day I adopted Roxie she became the guardian of me and vice versa.

mom is sure there are more, but can't think about them right now!
With Rascal going to rainbow bridge and mommy nannying for a family in the area at times, it seems she does not have time to allow me, MY DOGSTER TIME!. GRRRRR~ I love her! She is my mommy.
Okay so the not so happy news! Mommy took me back into the vets for the itches and scratching and chewing and you guesssed it anything that I should not be doing. Since we've treated everything else, and nothing worked....we are finally treating allergies. I have allergies, my friends. To what? Well, unless we do allergy testing, we'll never know but the Dogtor even said, that is not fool proof and my allergies probably will never be cured. So we are guessing it's food allergies and allergic dermatitis, which I think is just another fancy word for environmental.
I'm on prednisolone every other day. I also at the moment take Hydroxyzine 2x a day. I have to have dermcaps put on my food and I get to start a special food, soon. Mom is not happy about it, as she does not like to support the company but she will give it to me. I'm going to be eating z/d formula.
Now brace yourself fellow doggies, I'm not allowed any HUMAN FOOD, ANY DOG TREATS, NOTHING. Now I do think this is very unfair I'm a PRINCESS, didn't they get the message.
She has to wipe me down 2x a week with water, roxie says not a good idea! she has special shampoo that can be used every 2 weeks, and some special spray which I run from.
now friends, I need your help. Since mommy is making me follow the dogtors (vets) orders. Will you convince her to get her low blood sugar checked out, she is avoiding this and my pals....I love my mommy but I can't do it without your help.
Mommy says, there is probably more, but will do it later. As this doxie has to go for a walk.
I've been very good, at times I have cause mischeif but it was in the nature of exploring and seeing my surroundings. I would love a bully stick and stuffies that squeak. I would also love some clothes or hand-made blankies to keep me warm.
and most of all I want all animals to have a furever home and not be cold outside or mistreated.
