Arrival Story:
Born on the 16 March 1990, Pia came to me at 9 weeks after being in 5 homes previously!!!! She had no skin on her feet or chest - at first it was thought she'd been hit by a car, but later I found out she'd been dragged along the roads because she wouldn't walk!!!!!! The first thing she tried to do on arrival, was eat the food out of Bobby (my GSDs) food bowl. When I told her off, she bit my arm – hard!!! This set the tone of behaviour for the next 9 months! She was a very dominant little girl! I’d try and teach her some manners and if she didn’t like what I was trying to show her, she bit. By the time she was 6 months old, I had bite marks all the way up BOTH arms. The vet said that when I’d had enough, she would put her to sleep for me!! She was that bad. At 9 months she caught a viral infection that affected her heart. She would move, turn blue and collapse. We didn’t think she would make it. Pia had other ideas. The vet said that if she lived a quiet life, she might make it to 3. Again Pia had other ideas. She started agility and loved it

In her youth, she competed in obedience, agility and Flyball, gaining many places in all disciplines. She also appeared in a stage play where she had to be “on-stage for most of the play!! She loved it. She has had many places in obedience in beginners and novice, even beating Tigger on occasions! But she came into her own when we discovered Flyball. She became a height dog and the fastest time a team with her on has raced was 18.73!!!!! We won our division that day!!!! When she was 7, Pia started in a stage play and was on the front page of the local paper – in colour! And she was interviewed on local radio. A few months after this, she came down with Gastric Tortion. She was rushed to the vet, who said if I’d been 10 minutes later, she would have died!!!! Yet again this tough little dog pulled through. This time - Tuesday February 21st 2006, Pia lost her grip on life. Her kidneys had been failing for some time and over the previous week she had lost a kilogram in weight. THE END There was nothing more that we or the vet could do, so at 2.40pm Pia went to join Tigger and Midge at the Rainbow Bridge.
