Yep, It Snowed Again!

Hi there all my tail waggin' friends,
Now when you think that I live in South Africa you wouldn't think I would have to deal with snow! Please! Yep, this week it snowed and snowed, there I was tail waggin' one day and depressed and cold the next. To add to it all, my Mother blew it again. Sunday she put on that sly voice calling "Snuggles, Snuggles" but I had already heard her filling the bathtub and I could smell that awful smell of doggy shampoo. Even though I hid behind the sofa she found me and dragged me off for a bath and a hair cut.... well no wonder it snowed on Monday! My poor partner Milo was also degraded with all this soap and scissors stuff.. sigh...
Anyhow, there we were in the snow, nearly bald as Lhasa's go, sporting our blankey jackets traipsing through the garden, inches deep in snow, with Mother saying "Come on now, do a wee wee". Have any of you ever tried to "wee wee" when ones paws are freezing, the world has turned white and one's tail is down. Not the simplest feat I must tell you.
However, the sun is out again, that darn snow is melting and here I sit wrapped in a blanket on the sofa wondering when it will be warm enough for me and Milo to go ratting again.
You all have a super summer wherever you are and remember, us dogs rule!!! Oh yes, and cats suck!!
Much tail waggin' love

Hi there All my Tail Waggin' Friends,
Yep it's me Snugs again. Happy 2010 and all that, I suppose. You know, I started this year on a happy note - a couple of rats passed by, if you know what I mean!! - and then Mum ruins it all.
Last week out comes the big, orange scissors. Gee that sure is mean. Mum prepares a nice soft place on the couch with our towels and then looks for me and my mate Milo. Let me tell you, we knew precisely what her evil intentions were. We both get that "whipped look" is what Mum calls it, and off we dash, tails down, helter-skelter as far as possible from her.
She kind of gets that smug look, like a cat, and when she says my name it singsongs a bit, which must be guilt on her part. Let me tell you my cute, happy temperament changes immediatley. I go into "Cobra Mode" and woe be her when she comes near me. No more cute, snuggly little Snuggles I tell you. hmmmph.
Ok, Ok.... eventually by default there I lie at her mercy on the couch with the scissors snipping away at my coat and my lips lifting in the Cobra Smile that I have perfected. Every now and then when I see Mum relaxed and happy snipping away I kinda need to remind her who she is dealing with and I aim for those wrists and try and put a bit of damage control into them......
So yes, here I sit, a Lhasa Apso, writing this to all my friends while I am wrapped in doggie blankets to keep warm. What a joke!!!
Well keep rattin' and keep an eye out on those darn cats.
Love to you all

Summers Back!!

Hi there all you Tail-Waggin', Cat chasin' Friends,
Yep Summer is here in South Africa and Mother has taken the scissors out to clip off all the winter growth so me and my partner Milo can be cool and fresh. The best thing that has happened recently is that Mum has taken to feeding garden birds. Hmmm!! They look fresh and juicy I can tell you. I told Milo it's like having a food factory move right into ones own backyard.
So there goes Mum at 6am with a cup of seed and a bowl of suet and puts it all out on the feeders. Then whilst she makes morning tea, Tigger the cat, Milo and me put our butts in the air and chins to the grass and inch our way forward to those feeders. Yep, those tasty little critters are all puffed up, pecking away hungrily, each one looking like a healthy breakfast to us. Before we quite reach those feeders though, Mum comes storming out the kitchen chasing all of us.
Sigh........ all that hard work for nothing, and wetting our paws and tummies on the morning grass all came to nought! hmmph.
So it ends up that me and Milo crawl back into bed with Mum and a dog biscuit to get lots of hugs and cuddles.
Yep, I suppose that it's not too bad an alternernative to fresh Pigeon a la Snuggles!!
You keep up all the cat chasin', rat catchin',
lots luv from your favourite Lhasa

This Cold Winter in Africa!!

Hey there all you Tail-Waggin' friends,
Yeah it's me... and yep, here in South Africa it is winter right now. I am SO tired of fighting those darn cats for front place at the fireplace in the evenings. One would think they would have realised by now that I get first choice, but you know cats...... all that fish seems to mush their brains.
Every night, Mum lights the fire, all our blankets are placed in neat piles in front of the fireplace. I have a good scratch here and there whilst Mum does the hard work, and then up I get and dawdle across to the fire only to find..... yep.... you gusessed it.... the cats have taken the front row seats. huh!!!
There I stand, tail dropped, looking in amazement at them all huddled up with those smug looks of theirs.... hmmmph. Then I toddle over to the stripy red Tigger cat and before I can nip his paw, he swats me with those ugly, sharp claws of his and guess what...... Mother shouts "Snuggles, stop it!!"..... Snuggles .... Stop it.... I ask you. I am the innocent party in all this, the innocent bystander so to speak. If there is something I detest about those cats is that smug look, together with those slitty yellow eyes that peep out at me. Once Mother yells, they both start purring... they would not dare do that if Mum wasn't about, no ways my furry friends... talk about taking advantage over an innocent Lhasa.. hmmph. I reckon the day will come when Mum is not too close and me and my partner Milo can creep up and nip those ugly paws of theirs and make a huge commotion so they can move off to the sofas and WE, the Lhasa's can take front row. Our rightful place mind you.....
I sure hope you all assert yourselves like we do. Wishing you a great season ahead with oodles of cats to annoy, rats to catch and snacks to enjoy.
Your fluffy, tail-waggin' friend

Those Mouth-Frothin' Ground Hoppin' Frogs!!

Hey there all ya Tail Waggin', Cat chasin' Friends!!
Yeah, I am back. Gee, talk about being really annoyed this summer. We have had loads of rain over on the East side of South Africa, and all it has done is brought LOADS of those slimy green, bulging eyed frogs into my house. OK, I know if Mother did not insist on sleeping with the back door open (just locks the security gate) so my big brother the shephard can go in and out at night, we would not have this problem. For some reason these frogs like to hop into the house and sleep indoors! For Goodness Sake..... they are frogs.... go sleep in the garden in the rain, I say..... but do they listen .... no. So whilst Mum is watching TV I start the hunt... Now us Lhasa's can smell out anything if we choose to, and I find frog after frog. Mother yells, "Snuggles, Stop It!" as I race through everything in the house, I push shoes out the way, dive under the curtains, stretch under the lounge suite until I find the little blighters. Then the fun begins.... I leap forward and smack my nose on their backs and they leap high in the air.... then I pounce again... By then Mother is hysterical. She forgets TV and tries to chase me away from the frog, but no ways!!! Since when do I listen.....hah.... off I go, I smack my nose onto the frog, frog leaps, mother screams and on this goes until Mother just ruins it by catching the frog and putting it outside. But don't you worry, my tail waggin' friends..... it's not 5 minutes and I find the next one and off we go again..... what a laugh. One just has to remember to keep one's mouth shut... otherwise that green, horrible slime makes my mouth froth and I look like Father Christmas...Yuk.... but I reckon I have perfected the nose hittin' action now. What fun it is... Well enjoy the rest the season.... chat soon. Must go check out the lounge.
Love from your friendly

Those Darn Parrots

Hi there all my Tail-waggin' friends,
Yeah it's summer again over here in South Africa. Mother has clipped all my hair off, but I must admit it feels great now when she rubs my back and scratches my chest. I am wondering if any of my fellow Lhasa friends have the same MAJOR problem that I have. Parrots!! Yep, for some unknown reason Mother has a kind of fondness for these feathered things even though all they cause is trouble. OK, I must admit Simba and Jimbo were here before I arrived in the household, but surely they can see that I now am the boss? Simba will insist on climbing down from her cage and waltz around the lounge floor like she is the boss. So, imagine this..... there is the Timneh Grey, Simba, steadfastly walking around the lounge, looking at this, touching that with her big beak as though she has all the time in the world, and behind her skulks Yours Truly, and behind me follows Milo. Milo, my partner in crime, knows that I must lead, otherwise I will lift my lips at him and "smile" at him with disdain. SO there goes the three of us..... bossy parrot, me and then Milo... a train of three, around and around the lounge.... but let me tell you that darn parrot is verrrryy aware that if she flaps her wings and acts too cute I will hang onto those ugly grey feathers of hers. The saddest part of all this is that Mother keeps a very close eye on me so I never have much fun. Gee, they really are pesky birds, and then to make matters worse, Simba has the cheek to climb back up to her cage and shout "Snuggles, Stop It....." over and over again.
What a tough time I am having at the moment.
Well that's it from me. Have a happy bone munching Christmas.
Your friend,
Snugs

Hi there all my Rat Catchin', Cat chasin' Friends,
Well life here has settled down again now all my pups are settled in their new homes. Me and Milo (my Lhasa mate) are pretty relaxed again. No more rushing about chasing puppies and feeding them endlessly. No ways..... my biggest decision is should I sleep on the couch or on my pillows on the floor whilst the family watches TV? Yep, thats about it... Oh Yes, we still have those darn cats slinking around the house. Endlessly wandering past my food bowl, as if I don't see them.... hah.... catch them every time. Ok, Ok, I must admit it gets pretty embarrassing when I rush at them and all they do is sit down and lift a leg and lick their butts..... hmmmmm that sure makes me mad.
Mum had me "spade" too... that sure was unpleasant but she kept giving me oodles of love and telling me it will be the best for me. I am not so sure about that but I will trust her on this one.
Well summer is nearly here and it sure is getting hot, Mum says she is gonna cut away all my long winter hair for summer so I feel sprucy cute.
Love to all you tail waggin' friends,
and remember..... watch those cats!!!!

Back to Normal - puppies have left the basket!

Hi there all my tail waggin' friends,
Yep, I am getting back to normal after that stressful motherhood thing. Wow, I am still amazed to think that I raised seven healthy, happy, sharp-toothed pups! At nearly 8 weeks all the new Mums and Dads fetched their little furry bundles and off they went. OK, Ok I must admit it was pretty sad to see the babies room so quiet and empty and Mum has not been giving me oodles of warm milk and plenty of extra food each day, but the new owners seemed very happy with their babies. As you know I am Snuggles or better known as Snug the Bug, Dad is Milo and now added to our family is Slipper (isn't that a laugh?), Kayden, Jasper, Bruce, Princess Ruby (ho hum), Kaitlin and Nim. Yep that's the family. Have a look at some of them in my family section, pretty darn cute I reckon.
So life is back to normal, I sleep between Mum and Dad in the down duvet, Milo sleeps on the far side of Dad's legs and there we are a happy family again. Yeah, I do still snore pretty loud but I reckon that scares the mice away. I really am happy again, no stress of midnight feeds, gee whiz come to think of it that mother thing was a huge job.
Well happy cat chasin', mouse munchin' and all those other things us happy pooches get up to.
much love
Snug the Bug xx

Hi there all you fun lovin', rat catchin, cat chasin' pals,
Yeah, yeah, I am surviving this motherhood thing, but let me tell you.... never again! Ok, Ok, Mum keeps telling me that I am lucky to only have 8 weeks of it as she has had years of it, but that still doesn't make me feel better. So here is poor me, lickin' this one, soothing that one, stopping this one squeaking, feeding that one. What a hectic, tiring life I am leading. Yeah, those 7 little tiny pups are now big, fat, tail-waggin' balls of energy driven furballs. There's no peace for me, if its not one wanting to suckle then it's another wanting to play.
Ok, I will admit I do hold a soft spot for each of them. When their tummies are full of food and playtime is all over and they get sleepy, there is a possibility that I do think them cute. I still can't wait for this "working mother" bit to end and I then can return to being that snuggled, cuddled couch potatoe.
The good news is Mum has got a good home for each of them. All the new families are coming up with names for them and then Mum will register them all. On the 16 June 08 they all leave for their new homes. I know I will miss them, but if they are going to be loved as much as I am, I know they will sure be happy.
So fellow furry friends, think twice about having puppies. It just ruins ones lazy days and turns one into a working mother..... forget that.
Luv to you all,
Your hard working friend
Snuggles

Hi there all you tail-waggin', fun lovin' hounds!
Yep I am surviving this motherhood thing. It's pretty sad to think I have been transformed from a lie around mutt to a working mother. Yes, thats me, I have been put out to work...... 7 two and a half week old pups is no joke. There is poor little me, lickin' this one, lickin' that one and there they are squealing with delight, climbing all over me. Peace in the home is certainly a thing of the past. No more do I stumble through to the kitchen wondering what's for breakfast, then going to sun bathe all morning..... no no no.... that's over. Now.... I rush off to watch a bit of telly, get my tummy tickled, drink loads water and milk, eat loads of puppy pellets and other food then off I rush back to the nursery.... mmmmm it never stops.
I thought that perhaps this pup thing could be fun, but I'm not so sure anymore. Ok, ok, I have to admit they are darn cute when they wobble over to me and wag those cute little tails, climb all about my ears and chest making cute "I love you" sounds. Yeah, ok, I admit it, they are creeping into my heart. But let me tell you, I look forward to the day when I can go catch a rat or two for Dad, lie between Mum and Dad in bed at night and lift a paw when I want my tummy tickled.
For the moment it's just my pups that occupy my mind, feeding, cleaning and licking. I will keep you all updated about their progress mind you, and remember this puppy thing is not for the weak hearted.
Take care and be aware of those cats!!!
Luv Snugs
