Arrival Story:
Andy was adopted as a puppy by my cousin and Aunt though my aunt was sick at the time. Over time, my aunt assumed care of the dog but because of her chronic condition depended on others to look after him. Since I lived in the same house as my aunt, the little dog soon took to me. Maybe it was because dogs do that sometimes just choose 1 person - particular to shelties I think. Or maybe it was because I took him outside and let him sleep as a puppy on the bed with me. Actually he was a bad puppy - the bed was the only time he'd behave - when sleeping! So when she died over 2 years ago now, the dog stayed with me. In that time he has matured, stays alone loose in the house - playful but no longer a complete imp. Still likes to bark at strange men though but if he knows you - a real sookie.

Those TWO FELINE .... !!!!

WELL! I hear those two feline sisters have been on here again nit-picking with each other and generally calling me a lovesick fool!

Look, can I HELP it if I am by nature a friendly canine. I especially like women and yes most definitely our owner, our mom. As a puppy you see, she played with me, took me out & let me sleep on her bed - and the other tyrants in the house at the time allowed it because frankly was the only time that I was good you see - ha ha. So yes I admit I have a special bond with her because of that. She kept me even when the others went away - well first her uncle died and then her aunt - she could have done so many things with me. But she kept me, and let me off the leash to have open access to her house - bottom line - she TRUSTED me ... and you can never know what that means. She is my world - simple as that - and always has been.

But I like cats too - was a puppy with an older kitty who played with me and taught me to be gentle with cats. And yes I am kind enough to let them eat out of my dish - least gentlemanly thing I can do.

And yes Lady is certainly bolder than Heather - but I like to think of Heather as cautious rather than a coward to be honest. But Lady does what Lady does and thinks what she does. It is as simple as that.

But they are company when our mom works though right now she is on a medical leave because of her voice. But we all get our share of attention from her so life is good.

I like where I am in this household and feel secure in my place here.

Life is good and we are all happy. But don't believe the point of view of those felines - they may be biased is all I am saying.

But oh dear I hear commotion outside - I must investigate & start barking and all that so gotta run.

Until the very next time it is I Andy on the dog beat!

Well I have a new little sister?

Well she's gone and done it - doggone it. We were a happy family we were just my mom, Heather & of course yours truly here.

Yet one night she came home with that little multi-colored kitten in that carrier. Cute little minx too - but as much as tried to befriend her the more she spat at me the little minx.

And Heather well Heather just did her usual disappearing act after sniffing at the kitten and tail all big skulked off to her usual hiding place underneath that wardrobe in the basement. Like no one knows she is there? Ya right.

Course the kitten when freed from the carrier snooked around the place then decided the safest and warmest spot was on the bed in the crook of our mom's arm. Me? I kept wagging my tail eagerly showing my best foot forward you know - or should I say paw - heh heh - and kept trying to wash her ears - they were dirty you know? Course the little minx kept spitting at me but that did not deter me none.

And Heather must have to decided to bite the bullet and accept things because she was back in her usual perch later that night - on the dresser looking over us on the bed. Ahh well she'll will have to get over it is what I say.

Well all of that was well over a month ago now, and Lady the kitten has decided she likes me and does not spit at me anymore - and I am very gracious and allow both feline members of the family take a sample of my food - not all of it mind you - am not that gracious however!

I wash the little thing's ears still - and she plays with Heather when it suits Heather to allow for it - Heather still spits at her now and then and at me at opportune moments.

But all in all we are getting along - we are in where it is warm, we are well fed and appreciated I think. We are very lucky indeed.

Yes life is good.

Well, until the next time, it is I, Andy on the dog beat.

Yours,

Andy

Look - I thought I was through all that vet & groomer stuff earlier this year - but no!

When she takes that dreaded cat, my feline sister Heather to the vet for her needles, she has to take me too.

First our visit was postponed cause Heather out smarted our owner the day before and took off when she saw the carrier. But the next afternoon sure enough she got herself plunked into that carrier and away we went.

For my mind I could have stayed home, but just because I was doing a little biting, digging & scratching and basically leaving my fur all over the house as a poor dog is wont to do - she takes me too.

We wait for almost an hour & this lady shows up to collect 3 cats, a yellow lab pup and those 2 resident cats in the vet office as well. Oh the indignities I tell you a fella has to endure! Oh woe is me.

We get in the room finally and that cat Clyde is in the room with us - my owner says that's fine - no problem. Ya right I say - they sleep all over the office.

Then vet doc looks me all over - gives me a Flea treatment and a needle & pills to take home for all my allergies he tells my owner.

Then I have to wait while he sees to my silly skittish sister who I swear is afraid of her own shadow. That cat would run & hide at the smallest of noise - she never makes a peep while vet doc is prodding her - just clings to our owner while vet gives her needles - boy she sure climbed back in that carrier when finished though I tell ya. What a wussie! Coward!

And we had to wait even longer while our owner paid our bill and finally took us home.

So now I am back in my house, lording it over my feline sister and ya I admit all of that stuff helped my scratching habits.

Oh well life goes on as it were - today is election day of all things in this province. And they think I don't know these things? Ha - wasn't born yesterday you know.

Well that bed and a nap awaits - so will say so long for now!

Until the next time, it is I , Andy with the dog beat.
