Leave a bone for Gibney Grohl Neal - 1999-2005

Nicknames: Gibbles, Baby Girl, Sweat Pea, Puppers, The Pups

Quick Bio:
 Birthday: August 4th 1999
Likes: Laying on your lap, smiling, playing, giving lots of kisses, leaving gassy bombs around the house, giving us the "whites" of her eyes

Pet-Peeves: birds, and some other dogs

Favorite Toy: A "bite-meez" from Anthropologie, but doesn't need much, just get on the floor with her and she really does "box"!

Favorite Food: Peanut butter on a spoon and these chicken strip thingys from Costco.

Arrival Story: We resuced Gibney in January 2004 from the LA Boxer Rescue. Long story short, we were there to see another little girl, and Gibney (our name for her) was being RETURNED! Dear God, who returns a dog? Anyway, we decided that she should not go back into the rescue, so a donation and a trip to pet smart later, we have a daughter.
Today, Novemember 15, 2005 was Gibney's last day. We sent her to heaven this morning, at 11:45.
One morning in February 2005, Gibney woke up in the middle of the night. She seemed to be having some pain and was unable to walk. We found out that she had Degenerative Myopothy - a disease of the nervous system that slowly takes away the signals from her brain to her legs. Typically, the disease progression is 4-6 months. Our girl made it through 8 months...she tried so hard. We got her acupuncture and put her on an organic diet. But, slowly, we watched her go from just dragging one foot, to dragging both a little bit, to the point where she could not get up and walk at all. The spark in her eyes that was there through all the pain finally went away and we knew she was telling us, "Momma, Pops, I'm tired...I just want to go to sleeps where I can run and play again." She went to heaven knowing that she was loved, incredibly loved - every day.
For those of you that had the chance to meet her, you know what an amazing dog Gibney was. Sweet, gentle, funny, a total charmer...we don't know how we would have made it out here without her. We will miss her every day...she brought more to our lives than we could have imagined. We hope she's feeling better now, running, jumping, playing...young again, with no more pain, knowing she was loved. We only wish we could have had her all of her life, not just the last two years. Our time with her was too short...but changed us forever.
Go to sleep, Puppy...we love you. We were so lucky to be your family.
Gibney Grohl Neal
August 4, 1999 - November 15, 2005

Bio: We are her 3rd owner, but her last! My hubby and I have never had a boxer before, now I can't imagine life without one. Their little games that they play, the endless attention and love and constant little farts and jokes are a complete riot. She is the best thing that I have ever seen in my life, such a proud parent am I. She loves to ride in the car, lay on the beach in Malibu, and LOVES to wake us up in the morning - has no idea that her 60 pound body really does make you feel like you can't breathe. :)
Btw, her name is the name of the most BEAUTIFUL beach in St. John, USVI...her middle name represents the name of one of the sickest drummers of our time, Mr. Dave Grohl, and her last name is our family name - quite regal, eh?
