   Leave a bone for Oscar

Osco/Osco P. Coltrane (Dukes of Hazzard), Osco Calarissian (Star Wars), Oskie/Oskie-Boy, Okeefenokee, Oker, Oakie, O-car, Ah-kee, Okser, O-scar; and SOMETIMES: Pee Boy, Mutt-scar, Buddy and Boobers

Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Quick Bio:

March 13th 2005

Squirrel chasing, squeaking, running around, hopping from couch to couch, chase, head getting scratched, sitting in the rear window of the car, burrowing under the covers, sitting on top of couch w/his butt on your head, diving on your gut & good lovin'

When his sister Molly tries to steal his food/toys/treats, getting his nails clipped, when you won't let him play-gnaw on your hand, and when pipsqueak Molly humps him (especially on his head!)

Favorite Toy:
His baby squeaky squirrels (he squeaks them ever so gently when he's in his crate), which have still not been ripped up

Favorite Food:
We feed him Canidae (http://www.canidae.com/), which is an excellent holistic, human-grade food; also likes peanutbutter, yogurt, bananas, chicken & fish

Favorite Walk:
Right on your heels and into the bathroom when you're using it

Best Tricks:
Falling off the couch (umm, he's still young...), sit-stay works some of the time, and lie-down (but only for Dad... and now for Mom too!!)

Arrival Story:
Get this: my fiancee's father's girlfriend, who is the mother of Oscar's sister Molly's brother Jack, was walking her dachsie one day. A jogger asked her if she wanted another dacshshund, which she didn't, but knew we wanted one so contact info was exchanged. We called the jogger, who's mother had the dachsie and lived in another city south of where we are. The jogger's mom was keeping the dachsie on a temporary basis for her neighbors who didn't have time to raise a puppy and wanted to find him a permanent home. We arranged to meet the little boy pup and brought along our current dachsie, Molly, to meet her potential new brother. Everything went very well and so in October 2o05 we welcomed Oscar (for free-can you believe it?!), our second SH black and tan mini, to our family. Even though he is bigger than his sister, he is a year younger and is slowly testing out his assertiveness and becoming a little less submissive. (Quick Quiz: What is the jogger's name? ;o)

Oscar has a neato design on the top of his paws that varies from the common black and tan markings. We call them his 'marble' paws. He also has a little burrow that starts between his eye and runs part way down his nose in the shape of an elongated teardrop. Oscar is very gentle and sweet and oftentimes gets dominated by his older sister, Molly. We are enjoying watching him find his way and grow into his paws. Also, since we don't know his actual birthday, we celebrate his along with his sister's.

This past weekend we went and visited Gramma and Grampa, who live 2.5 hours away. They give me lots of kisses and play tug with me. I got to go sniff around on the balcony and bark at the neighbors' dogs too. I was so freaking excited I peed on the rug! Poppa made a little movie starring--you guessed it--ME! Now I'm a big star. I bet my video will get played all over WoofTube too. I hope you like it :).

Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary, or, send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!

All in the Family

Guess what? I got to visit my aunt, uncle and cousins this week! It was my first time to meet them and I was very comfortable with them. My mom isn't exactly sure of their ages, but they all have gray in their beards (don't tell my aunt and cousin Greta I said that!). My uncle Oscar (same name as me!) is a short-haired red and his sister Gypsy is my (adopted) sister Molly's birth gramma. My aunt Millie is a short-haired black and tan and she and uncle Oscar had two kids, both short-haired black and tan minis, named Corkey (m), who was born with a bent corkscrew tail, and Greta (f). Their (human) mom was out of town so Molly and my (human) parents helped look after them and we got to go along too. We don't have a yard where we live, but our aunt, uncle and cousins do! It's fenced in so mom was comfortable with letting us out to snuffle critters and snack on various droppings. All kinds of neat stuff to explore and sniff. At one point mom was on the couch and all 6 of us doxies were lying around in various draped and human positions next to her. She said it looked like a doxie explosion went off and the way everyone was lying around was how we landed. Mom had to help uncle Oscar and cousin Corkey up onto the couch `cuz they're kinda (extremely!) chubby. Aunt Millie and cousin Greta are also full-figured gals, but mom says they all look like adorable little bulldogs.

I heard mom and dad talking about dropping us off with (human) grampa Ted on Sunday overnight to Monday. Dad said he was surprising mom and taking her away somewhere for a nice dinner. Mom is dying to know where, but he won't give her ANY hints. Usually mom says dad can't lie to save his life, but dad's playing it smart and just keeps telling her he won't disclose any other information. Mom's not completely thrilled about this, because she wants to know what to pack. Dad did say one nice outfit and then something casual. Mom keeps insisting she needs to know if she should bring something for if it's cool or extra hot, does she need sensible walking shoes or what?!? I guess Molly and I will find out after they get back. Even though it sounds like we're going to get left out of some type of food event, we are excited to visit with grampa Ted and Molly's (birth) mom, Isabella (Izzy), and our cousins Patton (aka Patty McFatty, a huge doofy lovable black lab mix) and Buster (a somewhat 'fragrant' mid-sized beagle-looking bloodhound mix). We also get to run around in their huge fenced in yard, which is wooded and fun to explore. It's so nice to spend time with family :)

P.S. Our 2nd Dachshund Meetup group is getting together in ONE week (the 22nd)!! The first one was loads of fun. Can't wait!
