T'was the Night Before Christmas... A Dobie Story

T’was the night before Christmas
And the Shelter is dark,
The whole place is silent,
Not even a bark.
The dogs are all locked in their pens for the night,
The staff has gone home and turned out the light.

As I lay my head down on the cold, concrete floor,
I fondly recall my home from before.
The family I loved, who loved me right back,
We’d share everything – from secret to snack.
Things couldn’t be better this time last year,
But that has all changed and now I am here.

I won’t see the tree, the lights, or the snow,
I’m scared and alone, my spirits are low.
The others like me weren’t chosen for adoption,
A new family and home, for us wasn’t an option.
We’ve been locked up in cells as if we were crooks,
We don’t deserve homes because of our looks.
Not diesel, or Bingo, or the young one named Percy,
Deserve to be loved nor shown any mercy.

While families celebrate holiday cheer,
I know in my heart that my end is near.
The vet will arrive, the lights will go on,
By the time you awake, we all will be gone.
A stranger will come and take me away,
I’ll never wake to see another day.
As I close my eyes I’ll shed you a tear,
The fondest of memories I’ll always keep near.

The only thing I’ve ever asked of Santa Claus,
Is to stop all these unfair and ridiculous laws.
You said without me, your life was not rosy,
So why does it matter that I’m a big “dobie”?

In my dream, Santa shouts when he’s finished his deed,
“Merry Christmas to all – regardless of breed!”

Christmas Rules for the Dog

1. Be especially patient with your humans during this time. They may
appear to be more stressed-out than usual and they will appreciate long
comforting dog leans.

2. They may come home with large bags of things they call gifts. Do not
assume that all the gifts are yours.

3. Be tolerant if your humans put decorations on you. They seem to get some special kind of pleasure out of seeing how you look with fake antlers.

4. They may bring a large tree into the house and set it up in a prominent
place and cover it with lights and decorations.Bizarre as this may seem to
you, it is an important ritual for your humans, so there are some things you need to know:

a. Don't pee on the tree
b. Don't drink water in the container that holds the tree
c. Mind your tail when you are near the tree
d. If there are packages under the tree, even ones that smell interesting or that have your name on them, don't rip them open
e. Don't chew on the cord that runs from the funny-looking hole in the wall to the tree

5. Your humans may occasionally invite lots of strangers to come visit
during this season. These parties can be lots of fun, but they also call for some
discretion on your part:

a. Not all strangers appreciate kisses and leans
b. Don't eat off the buffet table
c. Beg for goodies subtly
d. Be pleasant, even if unknowing strangers sit on your sofa
e. Don't drink out of glasses that are left within your reach

6. Likewise, your humans may take you visiting. Here your manners will
also be important:

a. Observe all the rules in #4 for trees that may be in other people's
houses.

(4a is particularly important)

b. Respect the territory of other animals that may live in the house
c. Tolerate children
d. Turn on your charm big time

7. A big man with a white beard and a very loud laugh may emerge from your
fireplace in the middle of the night. DO NOT BITE HIM!!!

See You Soon!

So, Mommy got a new job! She's going to work at the Doctor lady place! Yay for Mommy! But since we don't have a computer at home, we won't be able to play on Dogster for a while. Bummer huh? But I know Mommy will be much happier now, plus her new schedule gives us a little more play time together.

I hope that you all have a very Merry Christmas and Happy Howlidays! I get to celebrate my first Christmas this year! Woohoo!! Lots of treats and presents for me!

It's been a while... (that's a good song by the way)

Hiya woofs and woofettes! I can't believe my Mom is such a slacker! We've been crazy busy so far this summer. Although, it has been insanly hot lately, so Dolly and I don't get to play outside for too long. Mom gives us lots of ice cubes to help us cool off too. While we're stuck inside in the A/C, I've been passing the time by torturing my kitty brother, Oliver. He's just so fun to chase!!

Mom took me to the doctor lady so I could be weighed, and you'll never guess! I'm not such an eenie weenie anymore! I weigh 12.5 lbs. Mom says that I am a big girl now, in more than one sense of the word "big". And I'm not fat either, thank you very much! Mom just says that I take after my daddy, and he was a bigger eenie weenie too.

Welp, my Woobie is gone, may he rest in peace. Mom says that I killed it. Woobie's squeaker sqeaked it's final squeak. Mom got me a new sqeaky, Mr. Mousie. He's cool, but he's a little too big for my mouth. With Woobie, I could just squeak and squeak to my heart's content, but with Mr. Mousie, his belly just won't fit into my mouth! Dolly squeaks him just to torture me I think.

Ok, I'm off to play (and chase Oliver). Maybe Mom will be a little better about adding to my diary (yeah, right).

Smooches to all of you!

We Got To Play In The Bathroom!

Last night the weather was very yucky. Momma was watching some color thingy on TV last night and there were crazy noises coming from outside. She made us all play in the bathroom for a while. That was fun because I could chase Oliver and there was nowhere for him to hide *he he he*. Mommy said we all had to stay in there for a while. She looked a little scared, so I gave her some of my magic kisses to make it all better. When she said we were allowed out, she looked around the house to make sure everything was ok, and it was. There are a bunch of great sticks in the backyard now for my chewing pleasure! Yay for me!

Good girl??

Well, no more Houdini Weenie for me.... *looks around for mom* At least for now anyway! BOL!! We had a pretty slow July 4th weekend. A couple of Auntie Kristen's friends came over and made some loud booming noises in the backyard. They scared be a lot, and they wondered why I wouldn't come when they called me. Yeah right! I saw what they did. I'm not a dumb puppy.

Oh, and guess what Mom told me today. We get to go shopping for a brand new collar!! I grew out of my puppy collar, can you believe it? Maybe since I'm a big girl now, Mom will get me a collar with a little bling on it... *crosses puppy paws*

I am Houdini Weenie!!

I've finally tricked mom!!!

The fence we have surrounding my backyard territory, has one flaw. It forgot that I'm an eenie weenie!! I've made this fun game of making mom figure out where I can wriggle through the fence. The weather was so nice on Saturday and mom put me and Dolly out to play. Welp, Dolly was too busy trying to catch the squirrels in the neighbor's tree (which she has YET to accomplish *eyeroll*) so I had to amuse myself somehow. I'm not good at chasing myself, so I had to do something. While I walked up and down the fence line, what did I find?? A space between the poles just big enough for me to squeeze through!! I was so proud of myself I had to tell someone! So I ran up to the front door (it was open except the screen door) and stood there and just barked at momma while she cleaned the living room! So she let me in the house and promptly went to the backyard to find my secret spot and block it! Grrrr Mom. So now I'll just have to find me a new secret spot.

Welp, I went to see the Doctor Lady...

I went to the Doctor lady on Friday to be spayed and had my final booster shots, including my first rabies. Aunt Becky (she's a tech at my Doctor lady's work) said I was such a big girl. I was still a little owie when I got home on Friday night. Mom cuddled with me all night long while I slept. I felt so much better by Saturday morning, but mom kept telling me to settle down so I wouldn't hurt my belly. I've been so good about not licking my stitches! I'm very proud of that fact, thank you very much.

The only thing that sucks about this is mom won't let me go to daycare until my stitches come out!! Come on now! How fair is it that I get to watch Dolly go bye-bye while I sit in my crate?? Not cool at all Mom!

Let's add another day!!

Ok, we can now make that 4 DAYS without an accident in the house!! Yay me!!

Mom took Dolly and me to daycare today. I'm really starting to like it! The first day we went, I was a little scared. The big doggies kept wanting to play with me, but they were just so big!! But I have more confidence now (that's what my Mommy says). One of the boys who works at the daycare has a little puppy too. He's a little Weenie Mix pup, and his name is Kai. He is my new best buddy. Mom called him my boyfriend! EEEWW!! Anyway, he's the same age as me too. It's fun to play with little boys who are my size. I can beat up on him!! BOL!!

To pee or not to pee? That is the question.

I know mom's getting frustrated with my potty training. She's been pretty good about taking me out all the time, so I can't blame her there. Sometimes I'm just too busy doing other things and it just sneaks up on me, you know? Plus Auntie Kristen has this rug on the kitchen floor, and it reminds me of the potty pads I was using at my dog-mommy's house. So naturally, I thought it was where I was supposed to potty when I'm not outside. I don't know why Mom kept getting mad when I pottied there. Well Mom decided to move that rug and you'll never guess!! I have not pottied in the house for three whole days!! Can you believe it? Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself, but I'm just so happy I have to bark it out loud! Woohoo me!!
