Quick Bio:
-purebred-dog rescue

Likes:
Sleeping, cuddles, car rides, belly rubs and massages -- pampering in general. She loves Momma and Daddy, but cats are her favorite companions.

Pet-Peeves:
Loud noises. That's it.

Favorite Toy:
Her squeaky dog! She also loves socks -- she puts one in her mouth and shakes her head all around. It looks like fun, but I don't think I'll try it.

Favorite Food:
She loves her kibbles (Nutro Natural Choice) and her Bil-Jac liver treats, but when Momma stuffs a Kong with peanut butter, she goes a little crazy.

Favorite Walk:
To the park! Tater gets 3-4 walks per day (including a long morning powerwalk with Momma), and that is enough for her -- she is very low-energy.

Best Tricks:
Everyone who meets her falls in love with her. Not everyone is a "dog person," but apparently everyone's a Tater person! That's her only trick.

Arrival Story:
Tater was abused and neglected by her former owners. When a friend of ours (who had witnessed the abuse) rescued her from this awful home she had heartworms, several intestinal worms, and fleas and ticks; she was also pregnant and severely underweight. Tater flinched and cowered whenever she was touched. She has been ours now since February 14, 2004 and the transition was pretty smooth, considering. She loves the love and attention she gets, and she loves to be touched and hugged. Health-wise, she is doing much better and has finished heartworm treatments. Now she has no trace of heartworms, and she takes the monthy preventative. She has also gained some weight, and got up to 43 lbs. as of December 2004. She is lovely, sweet, gentle, lazy, and mellow -- and it's really easy to love a dog like that!

Bio:
Tater is a Blue Belton English Setter (Llewellyn type). English Setters are the smallest and most mellow of all setters. She is about 23 inches high at the shoulders. We estimate her DOB to be August 2002. Tater really likes cats -- and they love her, too -- and she is very gentle and quiet. She rarely barks -- I've heard her bark maybe six times since we adopted her. Tater is a graduate of obedience school and has a Home Manners diploma. UPDATE - Tater now has even more kitties to play with, and she loves it! We rescued a pregnant momma cat in April, and just had to keep her because she and Tater immediately fell in love. She had four kittens: two went to live with friends, and two stayed with us. The kittens are always trying to climb up Tater's legs and she just lets them. She often plays with them, curls up around them when they are napping, and "mothers" them. Tater and our calico kitty, Punkin (our First Born), also get along well. Remember: ALWAYS spay or neuter your pets, and DON'T breed or buy while homeless animals die!

A Tater's Life

My Friend, Punkin, and the ACES

I have a new online friend. Her name is Punkin (same as one of the kitties at my house!) and she is also an English setter with a sad past. But like me, she has a nice new home with a loving family now. She has a Dogster page, and she is one of my PupPals (be sure to look at her pictures -- she's a cutie, just like me). My momma and her momma write to each other sometimes and compare notes about us. So far, they have discovered that we are a lot alike -- we both love to cuddle and nap more than anything else, but we also like to play. We have other things in common, too -- we both went to live with our new families on the same day (Valentine's Day, 2004) and we both have lots of kitties that live with us!

Punkin's family rescued her through the Another Chance for English Setters (ACES) rescue organization. Check out their site at: http://www.englishsetterrescue.org. There is a lot of information about English setters on that site, and you can learn all about doggins just like me! Also, there are pictures of setters that are looking for a good home on the ACES site. Punkin's mom has even put some of the adoptable setters on Dogster, and they are all my PupPals -- so check them out!

If you have room in your home and your heart, consider adopting a setter. My momma says it is one of the most rewarding things she has ever done.

I'm a Sugarplum Fairy

I went to the beauty shop! The nice lady there, Jackie, takes really good care of me and I am very good for her. She gave me a bath, and she trimmed my hair all up. She even took out those little tufts of hair from between my toes, so they won't get dirty or matted. I like Jackie; she is such a nice lady. I never mind it when Momma leaves me with her. Jackie put little pink bows in my hair when she was all finished, and she sprayed me with doggy perfume. Then, when Momma came to get me, they talked about what a pretty doggin I am. I just sat there and thumped my tail.

When I got home, Momma gave me a greenie and she rubbed and kissed me all over. She says I smell like a sugarplum fairy, so she keeps calling me that -- she calls "Come here, my sweet sugarplum fairy-dog!"

I have to go take a nap now. My day at the beauty shop wore me out!

A New Friend and a Vet Visit

This past week, I made a new friend. Her name is Ginger, and she is my grandparents' doggie (does that make her my aunt?). I had met her before but she growled at me (and it was scary!) but Momma explained to me that Ginger is just old and cranky and that we should give her another chance. I'm glad I did, because we sure had a good time playing together!

This morning, I went to the vet. When I was first rescued, I stayed at the clinic for a long time, so everyone there knows me. Today I just had to have a vaccine and some blood drawn and Momma and Daddy both went, too. I like going to see the people there and they are always glad to see me. I think I am their favorite! There is a vet tech there who especially loves me and always gives me lots of kisses. I like it! Also, they have a picture of me up on this huge board with lots of doggies and kitties on it. Momma and Daddy said I was good for the vet and everyone talked about how great I am while I sat there like a good girl.

Well, that is all for now. I have to go to bed soon. Momma and Daddy let me lie on the bed with them for a while before I go to bed and I like it. Also, Daddy always picks me up and carries me to bed.
