Marlowe Says...

Think Marlowe's as handsome and awesome as we do?

We think Marlowe's pretty fab. Like 25% of dogs currently in shelters or rescues, he's pure bred. It's a misconception that all dogs in shelters are mutts (not that I have anything against mutts!) and Marlowe's here to prove it to you.

He hopped right on the internet and found these two pure Black & Tan Coonhounds who are waiting to go to forever homes right now:

This guy doesn't even have a name, just a number: #564. He's currently living at a county dog pound in Ohio, most likely very high-kill. You can see from his picture that he's a purebred UKC-style coonhound (more petite than the AKC breed standard). He was found as a stray, just like Marlowe, and was probably a hunting dog who got lost, just like Marlowe. Can anyone give #564 a name and a home?

And this is Matilda. As you can see, Matilda is a very sweet pure Black & Tan girl, currently in rescue in New York State. She was rescued from a high-kill pound and given a chance to wait for her forever home as part of a foster family. She's currently scheduled for surgery on her eyes, so even if you can't give Matilda a home right now, her rescuers are taking donations to help pay for the surgery. After her surgery, she'll be right as rain--her vision will not be affected. Though we all know that coonies use their noses more than their eyes!

Coonhounds are natural roamers, and often people who hunt with them do not take the proper precautions to ensure that they get home safely after their work is done. Coonies are picked up as strays in rural areas constantly, and are often never claimed by their owners, who may have 6 more hounds and figure, what's one less? If you're interested in owning a coonie as a pet, there are over 30o black & tans alone listed on Petfinder currently.

Marlowe wants everyone to know that living in a nice comfy house with a new canine best friend and a mommy and daddy who let him sleep in bed with them is a pretty awesome trade for being a full-time hunter. Coonies may be natural hunters, but they're also natural couch-holder-downers!
