Arrival Story:
Roodi was run over and left to be euthanized at a local vet's. He was very close to death. His former owner didn't even want to pay for a final kindness. Loving and concerned vets, seeing how young this little Beagle guy was (1+ 1/2) and what a brave an patient dog he was, decided he could be saved. They worked and worked on him to keep him alive although his lungs were partially crushed and his rear leg was shattered. Amazingly, the little guy made it through the first surgery and then a second surgery, donated by an orthopedic veterinarian, who repaired his leg with a plate, screws, rods. After all this work, the young Beagle needed to be fostered as he had to stay crated for about 2 months. My daughter volunteered to foster him and took him home so she could care for him. As he improved she would sometimes bring him to our house. We didn't think we wanted another dog as we were still grieving over the loss of our Rosie, a Black Lab who had died a couple of years previous to this time, but the sweet and shy little Beagle won us over and before we knew it, he was ours...or we were his. We had determined that before he had been run over he had been abused. He was afraid of everything, especially men, and it has taken us over 2 years to win his partial trust although he is still very skittish at times and even seems to have flashbacks to the bad old days. Some days he is affectionate but other days he hides behind the couch, but he is doing better all the time although we realize that he may never act completely "normal."

Bio:
When he first came to us we named him Rudy. He never made a sound. We had him for 6 months and he never barked. We thought he might be mute. Then one day he made a very small "woof" when he wanted to go out. We told him he was a very good boy! The next day he woofed again. Then he gave a tentative "Roooo!" Before long he loved to go out in the yard and say "ROOOOO! AROOOOO! ROOOOO! So the spelling of his name was changed to "Roodi" and he says his name as often as he can. It makes us very happy whenever we see Roodi carefree, sniffing, running, and enjoying life. Now nobody is ever mean to him, he has plenty to eat, friends, people who love him and give him back scratches, and a happy life. He brings us happiness, too, with his cute and endearing ways. Sadly, Roodi went to the Rainbow Bridge on January 8, 2008. He is greatly missed. He was a good, good, boy, and our best pal. I hope we will meet again one day.

Dear little Roodi went to the Rainbow Bridge in January 2008, far too soon. Liver cancer took him away from us after a long battle. He was a wonderful boy, full of joy after such a sad start in life. We all miss him more than words can say. We hope that the life he lived after he was rescued made up for all that went before. We will never forget our little pal and remember him with smiles and tears.
