Likes:
To Snuggle--I'm really just a big lap dog.

Pet-Peeves:
Sometimes Moses scares me when we get pig ears--he gets a little too excited.

Favorite Toy:
Her blanket

Favorite Food:
Flint River Ranch kibble.

Favorite Walk:
Wherever Mom and Dad are.

Best Tricks:
I'm pretty, I don't HAVE to do tricks ;-) However, I am very accomplished at leaning against people and at being very gentle. I also can do the "normal" sit/down/stay stuff--especially if puppy cookies are involved. I also "purr" when I get snuggled.

Arrival Story:
I had a rough time before Mom and Dad adopted me. I was the only pup in my litter not to be adopted. I was very shy as a pup. When anyone would come to look at us, I would run and hide. My sister Taylor and I were the last two left when M &D met my breeder (by accident and/or providence). She told them that there were two pups left, a black (Taylor) and a Harlequin (me). Mom & Dad never got to see me. They met Taylor first and adopted Taylor as soon as they saw her (she is a beautiful girl, and was much more outgoing than I was then). I don't know why, but I ended up at the pound when I was still a young pup. I didn't get much to eat there and thought they might even put me down. Mom and Dad saved and adopted me. I had never been an indoor dog before, but I knew a good thing when I saw it! Taylor taught me how to use the puppy door and not to "do my business" indoors. She's a very smart girl, and I learned very quickly. I figured out the sleeping in the bed thing on my own--right away! I am also a snuggler at heart and seem to know when any family member (regardless of the number of legs they have) needs a Dane's attention (lonely, worried, stressed, etc.). I amaze everyone with how gentle I am when I touch someone with my paw (even when I stand up to hug Mom or Dad, I balance on my hind legs and only lightly touch them with my front paws) Mom and Dad say I'm a natural mother dog. It took a while to realize that this really was my forever home, and that there would always be plenty of food, etc. Now I know I am loved, and that the food bowl will never be empty for long--no matter how much we eat. Mom and Dad still giggle when they see me do normal Dane things like pouncing into a play bow, jumping up and spinning around into another bow (I wasn't too sure how to play when I first came home, but Taylor is a great teacher). (more coming soon--I'm waiting for Mom to write my FULL story--sorry Dad)

Bio:
My sister Taylor was a litter mate of mine. I think my "little" brother Moses is my puppy. I love playing with him, and grooming him; but anytime he gets out of line (he still has a LOT of puppy in him), I have to correct him. Neither of us notice that he's 45+ lbs heavier and MUCH taller than I am. He's still my puppy (unless pig ears are being given out--then he turns into a spawn of satan devil dog--IMHO).

Forums Motto:
A lap is a terrible thing to waste

Playing Tag

Hello My Canine Companions,

My both brother, Moses, and sister, Taylor, got tagged by other pups. I felt left out, and Tails said there was no rule preventing me from starting my own tag-line, so I did.

The rules of puppy-tag are simple. When tagged, you simply add a diary entry with seven fun facts about your self, and then "tag" seven other pups via Dogmail, and they do the same.

My seven facts:

1) I was a rescue puppy. While life was fine for my first few months, I then found myself at a "shelter." While I know many humane society facilities are truly humane shelters for animals, that try their best to find forever homes for their animals, unfortunately, mine deserved the quotation marks. If it were not for my Mom and Dad's extraordinary efforts, I would not be here. I won't go into details, but M&D say I was likely the most expensive "free" dog in the world (of course that was before my "little" brother, Moses, started racking up vet fees!).

2) I am a cuddler. Even more than most Danes, I want (and need) to snuggle. I also have an innate sense of puppies or people who need love, and seek them out.

3) I Mooo. When content, I make signing sounds that (especially given my Harlequin coat) sound like Moo's. I also express displeasure in being excluded if anyone else hugs on Mom or Dad by "mooing."

4) Even though my "little" brother, Moses, out weighs me by 50+ pounds, he is my little boy, and I have to look after him. Mom says that it might be that I look just like our fur mom, that causes me to try and be the mum of the house.

5) I love having my picture taken. While Taylor and Moses have to be shot candidly, I pose.

6) I can be a little head-strong (hey, I'm a Harlequin, what do you expect!)

7) Mom and Dad say I am the most gentle soul they know. I even let my niece ride me (Dad was NOT happy).

Well that's it for my 7 facts.

Look out, you may be tagged next!

Leans and Love,

Harley

Spring Cleaning (yuck!)

Wow, it's been over three months since I've updated my diary! I'll try to do better from now on.

You guys know know me well enough to know that I like things to be pretty, but after today I am rethinking the beauty at any price mindset. Dad used this very loud and scary thing that Taylor said was a "pressure washer" to clean the front of our house. This thing is like a million times worse than the dreaded vacuum cleaner! None of us pups liked it, but Moses and I got a little scared (he claims he was just waiting at the door to the garage in case Dad needed help, but it seems a little coincidental that lying on the floor there put him about as far away from the scary noise as was possible!).

Dad also washed the outside of the cars (now maybe I won't have to be ashamed of the puppy-mobile when we go for a ride).

Moses has been a little confused lately. Dad had to fly to Turkey this month, and Moses was a little miffed that Dad didn't even bring him a sandwich! Tails tried to explain that it was a country (not a tasty bird) that Dad visited, but I'm not too sure my brother understood.

It's getting late, and I need my beauty sleep. . . so I best sign off.

Leans and Love,

Harley

Christmas Day

After all the excitement leading up to Christmas Day (see Moses and Taylor's diaries for all the details), I wasn't very impressed with the big day at first. Our little human cousin Kalee, spent Christmas Eve with our family. Christmas day, the humans all got up early and headed for Grandma's house. Although Grandma loves us pups, dogs are not allowed in her house, so Moses, Taylor and I stayed home and waited. It was after 2pm before Mom and Dad got back, but they brought our stockings! For some reason, Santa Paws brings goodies for our stockings to Grandma's house. For a guy that is supposed to know if you've been naughty or nice, it seems strange that our goodies get delivered to the one house we are not allowed to enter... It makes a puppy wonder.

Regardless of his choice of drop off points, we still got lots of rawhide bones, rope toys, balls, and lots of other neat toys! So I'm not too concerned. Taylor thinks it might have something to do with the grand children's stockings being hung at Grandma's. I don't know, and I don't think it matters, as long as the guy in the red suit remembers us.

I also got to try on a scarf that Mom's Aunt gave her. Dad let me pose for a few pictures wearing it.

After opening all our presents, we all piled into the puppy mobile and got to ride around the neighborhood to look at all the Christmas lights and decorations. It was very pretty to see all the homes lit up for the holidays!

After a slow start, it turned into a fine puppy day!

Wishing you all a happy 2007!

Your Pal,

Harley
