Sirens!!!!!!!

I never had a problem with thunder but I hated sirens. I mean, I HATED sirens. The first Monday of every month the sirens would go off and I would howl for as long as they were on. Mom and Dad thought it was funny and would laugh at me. (Not nice, Mom and Dad.) One time, Mom video taped me howling. Then they played it on the TV. I howled at that, too, so what did my sweet mother do? She video taped me howling at the TV! Not nice, Mom. They thought that was funny, too.

One day the community parade went down our street. Mom was at work and Dad thought that we would get a front row seat in front of our house at the curb. Off in the distance was the sound of the fire engine's sirens as they came down our street. They were part of the parade. When they got closer, they saw me howling. When they got right in front of us they blasted every siren, every horn, everything they had that would make noise. Next thing anyone knew Dad was standing there holding my leash and collar and I was standing on our front porch. He ran up to me, let me in the house where I headed for the kitchen. He went back to watching the parade. About 15 minutes later he came back in the house to find me under the kitchen table. I hadn't moved from there since he had let me in earlier. By then the sirens were gone and Dad assured me that everything was all right, so I came out from under the table. Of course, he told Mom about it when she came home from work and they just thought it was hilarious.

One more thing......I've been at the Bridge for 8 years and they're still laughing about it. That's not nice.

I've been tagged!

Ok, I've been tagged by Jennifer (1990-2007) and Coco!
So..... if you've been tagged too, here's what to do!

Here are the rules:

Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their Diary the rules & their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary!!!

Some things about me:

1) Mom and Dad got me from the Humane Society of Missouri when I was 6 weeks old.
2) I was a surprise for my human brother and sister.
3) My tail curled back on itself, so when I wagged it I dusted my back.
4) I would sing "Gettin' Ready" along with my dad.
5) A squirrel would sit on the telephone lines and laugh at me when I was outside because I couldn't catch him.
6) I hated sirens, when they went off I would go nuts and howl at them.
7) Mom always wore her hair curly, once she dried it straight and I barked at her until she fixed it.

Do Animals Have Souls?

By Stacy Mantle

I was talking with a coworker the other day and he
informed me that animals do not have emotions.

This is just after he told me (the day that I put
my dog of 17 years down) that animals do not have
souls
And therefore will never enjoy the concept of
heaven.

Animals do have emotions and they also have souls,
and I'll tell you how I know that.

In over twenty years of working with animals, I
have never seen a kitten duct-tape a live human
baby to a freeway.

I also have never seen a cat find enjoyment from
setting a human on fire.

I've never gone hiking in the desert to find a
child that dogs have left tied to a stake,
Without food and water, subjecting it to a painful
death in the desert heat.

I have never seen a chicken force two unwilling
humans to fight in a ring with razor blades
attached to their feet
While the chickens place bets on who will be the
first to die.

I haven't seen a puppy place eight children in a
gunnysack and drown them in a river.

Neither have I seen an eagle aim a shotgun at an
unarmed human.

I have yet to see a bear kill a human simply to
place a head on the wall of their cave.

And to this day, I have not seen a pigeon drive a
car down the road and
Aim for humans who were walking around the park.

Let me tell you what I have seen.

I have seen my own cats sleep next to me so they
may keep me a little warmer while I was ill.

I've seen my dogs play games with me just to
force a smile to my face.

I have seen a cat rush into a burning home not
once, not twice, but six
Times to save her kittens, nearly losing her own
life in the process.

I have seen a ferret pull a frightened kitten out
of a deep hole in the ground.

I have seen a coyote fetch another dog so that it
may get the proper medical care that it needs.

I've seen a dog, who loves to jump on people,
avoid jumping on me when I injured my back.

I've seen elephants cry.

I've seen monkeys scream in empathy when one of
their own were injured.

I've seen puppies whine all night long when they
were separated from their mothers.

I've seen a dog pull a child away from a fire.

These are only a few of the things that I've
seen.

To list them all would take a lifetime, and I
think you get my point.

As for the soul thing?

Well, it is my humble opinion that if you have
emotions, any kind of emotions, then you have a
soul.

Ironically, the (old) Pope of the Roman Catholic
Church recently stated that he feels the same way.

Now, I can't prove that animals have souls. But
then, I can't prove that you or I have one either.

And for all those people who firmly believe that
animals don't have souls -
Well, I suppose if there really is a heaven,
you'll probably
Have the job of cleaning out all the litter
boxes.......

This reminded me of something that happened when I was still on earth.
One day Mom was sick and couldn't stand up for more than a few seconds at a time. All she wanted was a drink of water. She thought that my human brother would be able to get her one when he came home from school until she realized that he was staying after school that day and wouldn't be home for another hour. So she got out of bed and crawled to the kitchen, stood up to get a cup, and sat down on the kitchen floor right away. That's when I came in and layed my head on her shoulder. She knew right then that doggies do give hugs (and very good ones, too). She found out that we have souls, too. About a month after I went to the bridge she was in the living room reading. She looked up and saw me sitting in my usual spot by the front door. I was just a shadow, but I was there. It was my way of telling her that I was okay and everything was going to be all right. Mom and Dad both say that anyone who says that animals don't have emotions or souls has never had an animal. You really have to feel sorry for those people.

Love from the Bridge,

Sandy

I'm A Hero

One morning my two-legged sister was going to school. She would walk down to the corner to catch the bus. I guess she must have been about 12 years old which would have made me about 2 years old. About a minute later she came back home. A strange dog was following her and she was scared! As soon as I saw the dog I went flying out the door and chased the dog around to the back of the neighbor's house. Mom, my sister and my brother all heard a yelp! Then the other dog came slinking around the corner and went away.......and here I came with my tail in the air and looking very pleased with myself. Everybody gave me hugs and kisses and told me what a hero I was. I loved and protected my family!

Basketballs

When I was a young pup I was out in the backyard playing with my dad. He thought it would be fun to roll a basketball at me. Now, you have to understand that the basketball was bigger than me. I don't know what he was thinking. The basketball ran over me! From that moment on, everytime I saw the basketball I would hook my teeth into it and run around the yard with it. I wasn't playing..........I was trying to KILL IT!!!!!
That picture of me on my page? DIE, BASKETBALL, DIE!!!!!!!! And, yes, I succeeded! I punched so many holes in it that there was no way anyone was blowing up that nasty thing again!

Sliding Doors

This was while I was still really little, our house has a sunporch with sliding glass doors. When I had to go out, mom would have to carry me over the track, which was less than an inch high and about an inch in width. I was convinced that I wasn't tall enough to walk over it. After a couple of weeks when my legs got longer, I decided to try to get over the track all by myself. I looked at the track, I looked at the patio, where I wanted to go, I looked at the track again, I looked at the patio again, and then I LEAPED over the track. I made it!!!!! I Lived!!!! Most embarrasing of all, mom was watching the whole time and laughed at me! But, I Did It!!

The Couch

It was my first day with my new family. I was just a puppy weighing in at a mere 6 lbs. My human brother (6 yrs.) and sister (10 yrs.) were playing with me. Mom and Dad were watching. I was exploring my new surroundings. Since I was just a little girl, I couldn't see over the couch, so I stood up on my hind legs and put my front paws on the seat just to see what was there. Apparantly Mom wanted to teach me that I wasn't supposed to get on the couch. That was fine. I had no problem with that. She gave me a little push off the couch ( and it really was little) and I went sailing across the room! We had hardwood floors and I was so little that I had no traction at all! Everybody laughed and Mom picked me up and said that she didn't mean to send me sailing. I got lots of cuddling. But I never did jump up on that couch. :)
