Arrival Story:
It was during my spring break from college in 1997 that my Mom said we should have a dog. A woman she knew brought over a Pekingese pup for me to see. She let me play with the pup for half a day then decided to ask a ridiculous price for the pup. So my Mom and I decided to go to our local shelter. It was on a Monday morning when we drove to the LA county shelter. The dog building was more of a room than a building with at least 3 dogs to a kennel. We were met with excited barks of greeting and of course, I didn't see her with all the excitement and expectant faces peering out at me through the kennels. My Mom saw her and called me back to the first kennel. While all the other dogs were jumping and barking trying to get our attention, Lucky was standing in the back of the kennel looking away from our direction. It was when my Mom stopped and looked at her that she turned to look and wagged her tail. The kennel attendant brought her out with a rope to a small square designated as the "visitor area". Lucky jumped right only my lap and tried to give me kisses like she's known me forever. I knew that we'd found our dog. She was just six and a half month old then. We were told that she was found on the street at just 8 weeks old and badly abused and terrorized by the kids in the neighborhood. She's still frighten of children to this day and she's now 9 and a half years old.
