Bonzi because of you I have meant so many new friends from this site. You are watching over me from "HEAVEN". Most of them on here call it the Rainbow Bridge but I still feel that you went to "Heaven".......You have no idea how many have lost their Babies on her. They have a real hard time dealing with the grief of it all. I guess it is so hard when it's out of your control. I am so sorry that we didn't do more for you. I think you would still be here it only I would have looked the drug up on the system but instead I trusted Sheehan. Yes I will mention her every chance I get because she is the one who cut your life short. The leaves are starting turn it was your favorite time of year you loved to play in them when we went to the lake. I am going to take the girls Paley & Maggie this year it will be lonely with out you. I say you are watching over me I hope that you are. Keep us all safe & one day my Baby Boy we will join you. We love & miss you.

What a beautiful "Baby Boy" you were & the love that you had was remarkable never once would you bark for no reason.....If someone would come to the house you would let us no and when Daddy & Jeremy came home from work you would dance all around until you could get that pat on the head. I no there were times we didn't pay attention to you when we got home but only because we had things on our mind's. Bonzi you were the "BEST" dog ever I don't care what anyone says about Chow's you we a great companion not a mean bone in your body....

You loved your monthly bathe & would just sit there when I would brush your fur. Afterwards you knew that a "treat" was on the way. You loved the vanilla cookies that we got you & you would pull them apart eat the center than the cookies. You would have done great on a TV Commercial!!!!

Who would have ever thought that when we brought you home the first day that you would be with us so long. You traveled with us everywhere we went and going through Canada you never gave us any problems at all. What a joy you were......

Paley Sue & Maggie Mae still miss you so much they grieve just like people do but we as "people" can't help them because they don't talk. I want you to know Bonzi & I Thank-you everyday for the new friends that I have meant on here because of you that was possible. I think you knew this would happen and even after death you wanted to make sure I was okay. Each day there is a different dog that has lost his life because of the drug "Rimadyl" just like you they didn't have a chance. I am still fighting "your" fight and won't give up no matter how many doors they shut in my face. You died because a Vet made a stupid mistake and we trusted her Dr. Sheehan never gave us the information on the drug for us to make the right choice instead we trusted her and for that Buddy I am so sorry. If only we had known you would have "NEVER" be given this drug.

I know that you are watching over us and keeping us safe even from Heaven so you just keep up the good work Bonzi and remember that we Truly Love & Miss You.............

Response from The FDA/CVM

Dear Ms. King;

This is in response to your e-mail inquiry to the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine concerning Rimadyl. I regret the delay in responding.

I am very sorry to hear of your dog's death. I know it is very difficult to lose a cherished pet. We encourage you to file an Adverse Drug Experience (ADE) report to FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM). The form for filing an ADE report can be found in the Table of Contents under "Form 1932a" at: http://www.fda.gov/cvm/adetoc.htm. It is a postage paid form.

FDA's CVM receives a number of Adverse Drug Experiences (ADEs) for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Rimadyl. However, FDA considers Rimadyl safe and effective when used according to the label and when dog owners are informed about common NSAID side effects. While I know this is not comforting to you since you believe your dog died as a result of Rimadyl, FDA must have sufficient proof that a drug is unsafe when used according to label directions before we could take action to have the product removed from the market. We have worked with the drug sponsor (Pfizer) for several years to help ensure that the product labeling is clear and includes appropriate listing of common ADEs. In addition, FDA and Pfizer have worked together to develop client information sheets for pet owners.

I can also understand you being upset with your veterinarian. If you wish to file a complaint about your veterinarian you should contact the State Board of Veterinary Medicine in the state where your veterinarian practices. You can find contact information at http://www.aavsb.org/DLR/DLR.aspx. I hope this is helpful to you.

Sincerely yours,

Re: Countryside Animal Hospital
Complaint #307553

Frances Alberty;
I just wanted to clear up a few things in regards to the complaint that I had with Robyn Sheehad from the Countryside Animal Hospital. It really up sets me to read the letter that she sent to your office in regards to Bonzi how could a grown so called “Professional“ woman lie as she did to you. I need to make on thing clear which is that “Euthanasia” was never mentioned and was not even an options at this office visit Bonzi was in very good spirits when we took him to her office and wasn’t in pain as she stated . He never stated to show any signs of problem’s until he was given the drug “Rimadyl” than he got a toxic reaction from the drug because he was in early stages of Renal Failure. Rimadyl causes kidney failure so why would you give it to a dog that is in the early stages of it? That was a “death” sentence and that’s just what he got.

It really upsets me that she has turned this whole ordeal around to look like it was our fault because we were in “denial”. The problem here is that Robyn Sheehan would not return our phone calls and has made every excuse under the sun to clear her name. I contacted her office twice on April 10th and left messages both time’s. She state’s that I gave Bonzi the drug Acepromazine that was prescribed for one of our other pet’s which is given to her before a thunder storm!!! Why would I do that?

She has made excuse after excuse for the reason she never returned my call’s the fact of the matter is she didn’t care she knew she had made a big “mistake” . Robyn Sheehan called me at 9:00 at night on a Sunday one month after Bonzi had been gone only because she received a letter from either the Attorney General or the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board at this point I didn’t even want to discuss the matter with her. All I know is that she prescribed a drug for our pet with out giving us a client information sheet knowing that he was in early stages of kidney failure & that Rimadyl caused Kidney failure and now wants to put the blame on everyone but herself to include her staff , myself & my husband because she capable to face the true.

Rebecca King

Re: File #06-06-053 Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board

James Rhodes;
I received a letter to a complaint that I had filed with the Ohio Veterinary Licensing Board in regards to Robyn Sheehan Countryside Animal Hospital. I feel that Heather Hissom made a hasty decision not taking the fact’s given to her that Ms. Sheehan did no wrong in the matter of our Bonzi. The CVM, FDA, and also Pfizer the maker of the drug “Rimadyl” clearly state that it causes kidney & liver damage it’s toxic to most dog’s and should “NOT“ be given to dog if they have kidney problems.

My complaint to the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board was that Ms. Sheehan prescribed Rimadyl to our pet knowing that he was in the early stages of renal (kidney) failure which she should have NEVER done! Heather claims that there was no violation of R.C. 4741 so tell me what does that mean? Ms. Sheehan did not give us a Client Information Sheet, she didn’t do blood work up on Bonzi’s kidneys, she gave him a drug that caused kidney failure when he was in the early stages of kidney failure and refused to return our call‘s when Bonzi got so sick. Not returning our calls is a VIOLATION of her professional ethics as well as a death sentence. She put him on aspirin a year before not telling us to stop that a week before giving the Rimadyl. So please tell me how she can’t be held liable for his death?

I would like answers as to why they feel she didn’t violate and code. This makes no sense to me at all. I have enclosed several copies of correspondence for you to read. Please if you have any questions you may contact me at 1-513-934-2881 or by mail.

Regards,

Rebecca King

Re. Robyn Sheehan /Countryside Animal Hospital

To Whom It May Concern;
The main complaint that we have in regards to Robyn Sheehan is that she put our pet on the drug called “Rimadyl” without any paper work attached that would tell us the side effect of this drug. If we would have known it could hurt our pet in anyway he wouldn’t have been put on it. We trusted her whole heartedly but, I guess that was our first mistake. Also I contacted her office several times after Bonzi started to show signs of distress but she would even have the common curious to return my calls. I feel that she has failed as a Vet she really let us down. Why would you put a dog on Rimadyl if his in the early stages of kidney failure? Why? He was put on the drug March 30th by 4/9/06 he started to have:

change in drinking habits (increased water consumption) unusual pattern of urination, overabundance of urine, urine accidents in the house vomiting diarrhea black, tarry stools , , restlessness, staggering, stumbling, seizures, loss of balance

We tried to contact her right away so that she could see Bonzi but like I started she wouldn’t return our calls. To me there is “NO” reason not to return a call unless she knew a mistake was made. I have enclosed all copies for you.

Rebecca King

Letter to the Vet Robyn Sheehan

Re: Poor Veterinary Service

Ms. Robyn Sheehan;
I’m addressing this letter in regards to the service that we received the past couple of weeks. April 30th we brought our Pet “Bonzi” into your office for a visit to access his health and to determined if he was in pain because of his hip. You prescribed a drug for him called “Rimadyl” which we never received any information on this drug, but we trusted you whole heartedly because you have been his Vet. Within days of the medicine he started to have several problems so we stopped the drug. Immediately I phoned your office several times that week with “NO” response from you. I can’t for the life of me understand why you didn’t return my calls?

The only thing I can think of is this drug causes liver & kidney failure and with Bonzi already in the early stages of kidney failure this drug damaged him even more and caused his death. Why would you give him this drug knowing this? I chose to bring Bonzi to you because I trusted you, I guess that trust was blind! If you treat all pet owner’s this way I wonder how you can stay in business?

Regards,

Rebecca King

Re: File #06-06-053
Robyn Sheehan

Heather Hissom;
First off I must say that I’m very disappointed with the letter that I received from you in regards to my complaint against Robyn Sheehan it’s seems to me that you must either be blind or you just don’t have all the records or facts in front of you to make a correct decision. You claim that there is no “Violation” on the part of Robyn Sheehan while she cared for our dog Bonzi. Did you not research this matter? It clearly states from Pfizer & the FDA that “Rimadyl” causes kidney & liver failure that’s it’s toxic to dog’s so why would a Vet give this to our Bonzi knowing for well that he is in the early stages of kidney failure? This to me is a violation as well as a “death sentence” !!

If this is the standard that you govern by then maybe your agency needs a “Review”; Guidelines for the use of this drug clearly states that any sign of kidney failure then avoid it’s use. The history of this drug shows a high risk, has big Business bought your judgment for Policing? Importunely your are ignorant to the dangers & fact’s of Rimadyl. Maybe you need to be educated as well as many of the Veterinarian’s that you licenses.

I would also like to get a copy of the Violation that you state is R.C. 4741 it seems that on you web-site everything is a R.C. 4741. It’s easy to set a t a table with a few people pencils in hand and just mark “NO VIOLATION” to a complaint push it aside and go on the the next complaint. I have attached copies from the FDA & CVM in regards to this drug Rimadyl if you think that the Vet did nothing wrong than tell me why this drug was prescribed to our pet knowing these dangers.

Violations:
1) No “Client Information Sheet” given to us regarding this drug.
2) Prescribed 100mg ½ in morning ½ at night the correct dose is 2mg per body weight he only weighted
40lbs so he was given 20mg to much.
3) She had prescribed the year before one aspirin a day for pain he should have been taken off that aspirin
for at least 5 days before taking the Rimadyl.
4) No “testing” was done to see what his blood panels were.
5) Bonzi was in the early stages of ranal failure he should have never been given Rimadyl.

Rebecca King

We Miss You More & More

DON'T GRIEVE TOO LONG
Don't grieve too long for now I'm free
I've followed the path God set for me
I ran to Him when I heard His call
I swished my tail and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To bark, to love, to romp or play
Games left unplayed must stay that way
I found such peace, it made my day.

My parting has left you with a void
Please fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, your laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things I too shall miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full, you've given so much
Your time, your love and gentle touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your head and share with me
God wanted me, He set me free!

I know we shouldn't grieve so long but you were our "family" for so long it's hard not to. Fall is almost here that was the best time of year for you. You loved to walk in the woods & get your picture taken. I will miss that so much. I will take Paley & Maggie out but it won't be the same without you there to keep us safe. We all still look for you i n the morning when we come down stairs but you are not there. From time to time we hear you, and smell you so we know you are around. People call me a crazy because they don't believe in things like that but I know that in my heart you are here. Bonzi we love & miss you so much you will forever be in our thoughts & in our hearts.

Your Birthday

Bonzi my "Baby" Boy your birthday has come & gone you would have been 14 years old. We missed you so much on that day as we do everyday. We still did the same as always Dad fixed steak but, you weren't here to have your's. We sang "Happy Birthday" to you as if you were. You are so missed but we know in our hearts that you were watching us as you do each day. Sometimes I hear you at night & we smell you around the girl's look your way as if you are there. I know you are in a "Great" place and will be waiting for us at the "Gate" you are so missed & loved......................................

Happy Birthday Bonzi My "Baby Boy"

Sunlight streams through window pane
unto a spot on the floor....
then I remember,
it's where you used to lie,
but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet,
and muted echoes sound....
then I remember,
It's where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road,
and up beyond the hill,
when I remember it can't be yours....
your golden voice is still.
But I'll take that vacant spot of floor
and empty muted hall
and lay them with the absent voice
and unused dish along the wall.
in a blanket of my love
and keep them for my best friend
until we meet above.

You are in our heart, in our thoughts & still in our lives. We miss you so.
