Arrival Story:
Chena was picked up as a stray and held in a shelter till her time was up. When I adopted her, she was 40+ pounds overweight and very sick with parasites and diarrhea. We eventually learned she had hypothyroidism and Cushings disease. It was a long and winding trail for her to the happy and healthy dog that she became.

Bio:
The photo of her with the nasty coat was taken at the height of her Cushings illness, just before diagnosis and treatment. The picture of "beautiful Chena" was taken a couple of months after treatment started. In October 2003 Chena, along with several other NW rescued Siberians was honored at the National Siberian Husky dog show. The primary photo shows Chena (left) and Teru (right) sporting their huge rosettes and medallions from the dog show. Chena had over 6 wonderful years with me, and more than 3 great, healthy years after Cushings treatments started. Sadly, the symptoms returned in August 2006, and despite great vet care, tweaking of meds, and new tests, the disease and her advanced age took their toll as the disease gained the upper hand. Chena left us on December 18, 2006. She is much missed. Rest well little girl, till we meet again.

What I learned from Chena:
Persevere through adversity and ill health, love those who help you, take time to enjoy a nice nap in the shade, walk---don't run--life goes by too fast as it is, love those who dote on you, enjoy a good practical joke now and then (she loved to sneak up on sleeping Zephyr and BARK at him to watch the good startle reaction, and she did this 3 days ago), run to the gate and happily greet those who love you and are coming home, enjoy a fun game of keep-away once in a while.
