Getting attention!! She loves to get zerberts on her neck--she will actually sit on top of you and put her neck over your mouth as a hint.

When our daughters pull her ears and when people walk by our house.

Favorite Toy:
little squeaky ducky

Favorite Food:
beggin' strips and anything our daughters are eating

Favorite Walk:
around the block

Best Tricks:
stands up and dances

Arrival Story:
We just moved to our new house and our dog, Tags, was not acting himself and almost seemed depressed. We let that go on for about 2-3 weeks and finally thought another dog might make him feel better at home while we were at work. It was the best thing we could have done for Tags...he started playing immediately and has never been depressed again!! Lacey saved the day for Tags and us!!

Lacey is really a cutie-pie...she will always be little and look like a puppy. She was a lifesaver and makes an excellent friend to our other dog, Tagalong. Tags had a rough time after we moved, and Lacey made him happy again!! Lacey can be a bit trying at times (especially with house training), but we absolutely love her because she is so full of love too.

I am very sick...

Happy Birthday to ME!!!

I know that sounds conceited...but given my past year, NO ONE expected me to make it to my 6th birthday, no one. In fact, no one expected me to make it to September!!

As my mom says, I was 12 seconds away from death...she had given the order to put me down and had given up hope that I would recover from the still mysterious illness that had taken over my body. It damaged my liver and kidneys, killed my immune system, and caused my red blood cells to start attacking each other.

But the vets told my mom to keep trying and to never give up on me as they still had options (such as a blood transfusion), but my mom still gave the order and said she wanted to see me one last time...she came in and there I was...I hadn't eaten for 2 weeks, I had lost about 3 lbs (going from 9 lbs to 6 lbs), wouldn't drink water, and kept throwing up everything and anything the vets would shove down my throat...but still she came to see me and I couldn't let her know how much pain I was I mustered up all my strength and stood up and wagged my tail like I've never wagged it before, and pawed at my cage to let her know how much I loved her and that I was SOOO happy to see her and I didn't want her to leave me...and I certainly didn't want her to give up on me.

I wasn't ready to die.

It worked...she called off the order and opted for the blood transfusion, even though she knew she couldn't afford it...she told me she couldn't give up on me if I wouldn't give up on her.

Slowly, I started showing signs of red blood cell count started climbing. Instead of the grave #12 it had dropped to, I was slowly getting up into the twenties (normal range is closer to 40). I started to eat (not much, but it was something) and I was able to keep it down mom started to feel relieved that the expensive procedure she cautiously approved appeared to have worked, and within 5 days, I was HOME!!!

I wasn't out of the woods, and continue to still be on medication, yes, almost 1 year later...I cannot yet be vaccinated for anything due to my medication and my immune system is still weak. I currently have an ear infection, but I don't let that get to me...I am my old self...I am happy, energetic, I bark ALL the time, and I am now up to a wopping 10.5 lbs!!!

Life is good again, thanks to my family and those wonderful vets that refused to give up on me!! Here's to several more wonderful years!!

It's me again!!

Well, it sure has been a while since I updated everyone on my progress. I am still hanging in there. I am no longer quarantined and I am free to roam around my house. I have to go in my crate at night, because of my potty issues, but other than that...I am a free girl.

Believe it or not, I am still on meds....6 months after my illness!! They had reduced my dose, but my rbc count started to drop again, so I had to increase my medicine...they don't want to take any chances. Other than that, you would never know anything is wrong with me. My hair has grown back completely (in fact, mom says it's time for a haircut!). I am 9.5 lbs (down from 10.5), I am spunky, energetic, happy, and of course I have my 'lil attitude.

I still go to the vet regularly for my blood work. The vet has told my mom that because of my illness, I may never be able to be vaccinated for ANYTHING ever again...that includes rabies, distemper, bordatella,'s got something to do with the anemia I had, it just isn't a good idea to give vaccinations knowing the medical history, that's fine with me...who likes shots!?!

There is also a good possibility that I will be on the steroids for the rest of my life, but I have gotten used to my daily pill. I expect it every morning after my first walk of the day...I practically follow mom around the kitchen waiting for it!! I am still on a special diet, which isn't so bad...I often catch my brother trying to sneak my food.

Well, that's it for me, just thought I would check in and provide an update. So far so good, but even 6 months out, I'm still not out of the woods yet!!

It's been a while!!

Sorry I haven't written to provide updates, mommy has been very busy.

I am still going in for my weekly blood tests, but my steroids have been reduced to 1/2 tablet once a day. I am now down to only 2 pills a day!! That's great considering I was @ one time getting 8 different medicines!!

I have bulked up to a roly-poly 9.5 lbs (which is the heaviest I have EVER been in my entire life, but that is all thanks to the prednisolone). My red blood cell count is up to 49% and has been holding steady in the normal range for a while now.

I am happy again and running all over the place. I still have to stay in the basement at night, but when my family is home, I am free to run around the house.

Just wanted to check in to let you know how I am's everyone else out there?

Talk to you later,

Little Lacey Girl
