Arrival Story: I had recently lost my loving girl, Shamren. I was driving home from work on a busy street in December with lots of Christmas traffic and after work folks coming and going when I spotted a skinny black dog dodging furtively in and out of traffic. Her ears were pasted back against her head and her espression was one of total panic and fear. She nearly got hit several times. I managed to corral her off to a side street. I drove up next to her and she froze. I got out to see if she had a collar, tags. She had a "collar" of rotted shoe strings tied around her neck, and trailing past her body. Her shoulder blades stuck out of her back like jagged rocks and she was so skinny I didn't know what kind of dog she was. She had a large scar on her forehead. She was timid and frightened and looking at me with a most beseeching gaze. I picked her up and put her in my car. I took her to my folks as they has recently lost one of their fur kin and my dad loves black dogs. They took her and she was there for nearly a month, but she was too much for the other, older dog they had and they couldn't keep her. I brought her home on New Year's Day, to stay.
Bio: She became a loved member of my family. I don't know what happened to her before I took her off the street that day, but she may have been used as bait for dog fights, hence, the scar on her forehead. She was a special needs dog from the start as she had bladder accidents and the vet prescribed various treatments to correct the problem, with some success. There were times when she could be a handful as she had some aggression issues, domination issues, anger management needs, and she could be as stubborn as a mule when it came to disciplining her. When scolded for an unacceptable behavior, she would prance around, jump back and forth, bark and have a great time. Sometimes she would act sorry, but as soon as I turned around, she'd start dancing and playfully charge me, smiling all the while. She was a challenge, and I did get exasperated with her, but she was also a loyal, loving, sweet, smart, devoted fur girl and a fine friend and kin.

When getting petted: I'd make comfy sounds deep in my throat
When playing: I'd bark and spin and jump--throw that ball
When going on a walk: I'd pull until I choked and sometimes barf, then happily continue on my walk
When my skinkin tried to go in the house: I'd wrap my arms around her legs and kinda whine
When snuggling with my skinkin: I'd often wag my tail over and over, and smile. Life was good!
Another beloved fur kin is waiting at Rainbrow Bridge.
This morning I held, kissed, hugged, and spoke lovingly to Sluggo as she passed from this world to Heaven. When I felt her spirit leave, I felt my heart and soul break apart so that what left me could accompany her.
In this picture she is healthy, happy, and beautiful. As is her brazen nature, she is sitting on one of the smaller fur kin. Some things just never took her notice.
With all my love to you Sluggo!!!

There With You
He said I could wait for you,
at the rainbow's end,
or spend my nights and days,
there, with you instead.
You, the light of my heart and my soul
only with you, would I feel whole.
As it was I was already missing you;
so there's no question as to what I'd do!
Later I knew, when I saw
the softening of your face
as you gave our Lord praise;
I had chosen the bestest place
for you had felt my presence near,
gave me welcome with happy tears.
Know, that at night, when you crawl into bed
yawn and pull the covers up over your head;
on the pillow next to you, I will curl up
snuggling close, like I did when I was a pup.
I’ll be with you in your dreams at night
and in your daydreams I'll be with you, too.
Being kindred, you and me, this is something we do.
Though you may not remember I was there;
when you wake you will feel the comfort
of having spent time with a loving friend.
Yes, I am now a furry angel
Your guardian, with wings
And in being your guardian angel,
I hope I will make Him proud,
for I want Him to know how important
my being with you means!
