What about me?

Things have been a bit boring around here of late. I survived that most dreadful of holidays - July 4th - and have been waiting for Casey and Dan to make the time to take me on an adventure.

Then, last night, I thought it had happened! It was late, but they loaded us into the car! After driving only a mile or so, we were at the drive-through, ordering ice cream. (A small sundae for Casey, a brownie earthquake for dan.)

But wait! What about a treat for us?!?! We waited so nicely, with our heads craning toward the window, but no. Not even just a little dilly bar.

Tragic.

But Casey, in her guilt of consuming nearly a meal's worth in calories in sugar and milk, decided to take us on a cool night walk through the 'hood.

Somewhat of a booby prize, I might say, but hey, it was a walk. I'll take what I can get!

Hitting the Trifecta

Pups - it was a good morning on yard patrol.

Usually, I'm more of a "soak up the sun" sort of pup when we first get let out in the morning, but this morning, there was a BUNNY! Right across the street!! He was just sitting there, wiggling his vile bunny nose at me. I stood on alert, ready for any move.

Then, just as I was about to give up on my chances that he was coming into the yard (so I could eat him, of course), I looked to the right, and there were the neighborhood DUCKS! Just sittin' there, actin' all natural. Hmph.

And what was right next to the loathsome quackers, but a nasty SQUIRREL!!!!

Oh. My. Dog.

Lucky for them, I was restrained by the fence with the reinforcing invisible fence. Boy, would I have taught this terrible trio a thing or two about invading my neighborhood!

Somepup's been sleeping in my bed, pals!

Now, I don't really mind sharing my bed - I only get cranky when I have to share my food or Casey.

Happy, our greyhound pal, has come to stay while his peeps are gone for the week. He brought his own bed - a lumpy, sad little bed. He obviously knows that it is really insufficient for his large frame, and he has decided that MY bed is really much more suitable.

Hmph.

This means I am stuck either on the couch with Casey (The much more preferable option, for sure) or in his lumpy little bed.

I've tested out his bed.

I think I'll stick to the couch.

One Good Thing

So there are many things Casey could say about the new layout. Most of them would require symbols instead of letters.

But one good thing?

Grass!!!

Yep, fresh green grass all over my page to roll in!

But I wonder: will it turn brown by July like the grass in my yard? (Casey is a stingy waterer.)

Just wonderin'...

Body Count

As of this morning, our dead bird count for the spring stands at two: one sparrow and one baby robin.

Casey is thinking it has something to do with the juniper tree she saw me trying to climb this morning trying to reach a robin nest.

I remain innocent until proven guilty, I say!

Oh, pups, today is a sad day
Our Wyoming pal Bukka has gotten some no goodverybad news about his leg.
I can't believe how many of our good pals have to fight the big C. It's just not fair, pups!!! Not fair at. all.

Gut of steel

Man, Nali is such a baby.
I don't know what made her so sick - but Casey surmises that I was the one who ate it first, and when Nali *ahem* cleaned up after me, she proceeded to yak all over the house.
Ew.
See, I eat plenty of things I'm not supposed to. Sure, the curtain incident led to all sorts of bad things (surgery, staples, etc), but in general, I'm pretty much a dog of steel. No yakking from me. I even consumed and passed a complete pilates band - whole! Now that takes guts!! (ba-dum-bum)
But Nali - she's such a girl sometimes!

I am so complex

Dan has had a revelation about dogs, and yours truly in particular.
See, Dan was always a "dog person," he had just never had one of his own. So when he moved in with Casey, he began a path that would lead him to this latest revelation.
That we dogs have amazingly complex personalities (doginalities?)
Here's the story.
Casey goes to bed early (yeah, she's old, and she gets up early to go to the gym.) So she usually takes me and Nali to bed with her for a bit of a snuggle before Dan comes in and boots us out. (Why he doesn't want to share his bed is still a mystery.)
Inevitably, when he comes in to boot us out, I am nice and warm and snuggly spooning under the covers with Casey. So when he stands over me and says in a big, scary voice "RAJAH, OUT," I tend to get a bit growly and defensive.
So then Casey wakes up, and has to cajole and poke my butt until I move. It is not a pleasant experience.
Last night was different. Casey didn't even wake up, because Dan tried a new method. He just got into bed, then leaned over and asked nicely, "Rajah, up, please."
Sure, no problem. When you ask nicely, and don't intimidate me, I'll do whatever you want.
This has led to Dan's revelation that us dogs are much more complex creatures than he had thought. (DUH!)
So now with his newfound respect for my intellect, we'll see if it leads to more liver snax.

So not only did Casey and Dan leave us this weekend, I had to put up with Nali and her socializing all weekend.
Hmph.
So what - she got to go play with other dogs.
I got some much needed me time.
Without Casey to comfort me, I was a little lonely, but I got some one-on-one cuddles with the nice kennel lady, and at least Nali came back to our shared kennel tired after all that playing.
I knew Casey missed me on her trip, and Dan, too - they let me stay in bed with them most of the night!
Aaaahhhhhh....
