-mutt-dog rescue

Likes:
her momma, riley, molly, morning cuddles, giving butt massages, getting butt massages, chewing on stuff, and her friend melanie

loud noises, cars, new people, fast movements, watching riley go for a walk while she has to stay inside

popcorn, pizza-flavored bil-jac treats, pistachios, cheese, bacon!

Favorite Walk:
any walk without cars or people. and sometimes even those are okay; she loves to be outside!

Best Tricks:
getting her momma to do her bidding - ginger is irresistably cute!

Arrival Story:
ginger was caught as a stray waaay over in eastern kentucky. a woman who does st. bernard rescue went to the pound to get one of those big dogs and found this little one, just a day away from being killed. she rescued both dogs, and a few months later posted ginger's profile on petfinder.com! my roommate and i drove about an hour and a half to meet ginger and decided with her sweet face, she just had to come home with us! she was scared to DEATH, but she's come leaps and bounds since that first day! she's been part of our little family for about a year and a half at this point, and just keeps getting more and more comfortable with the people world.

Bio:
nobody really knows ginger's history... it was assumed that she was about a year and a half old when she was picked up. i believe she was never socialized with people, and that she likely lived with a pack of stray dogs for most of her pre-louisville life. her interactions with people were always scary and violent, probably because people kept trying to catch her or kill her. she had a very large wound on her back when she came to me, which i can't really explain. i believe it was human-inflicted, and that probably contributes to her fear of people. she's becoming a lot more friendly, however, and is very curious about people. she always wants to be where we are, but she doesn't quite feel safe yet. but she's getting better and better! she may never completely trust people, but i think she'll eventually be a lot more comfortable when we have guests. i think it really helps that we have another dog, riley, in the house. ginger LOVES other dogs, especially riley, and it's adorable when they chase each other around and chew on one another. one of ginger's best tricks is to get up on the couch and wait until riley comes by, then leap onto her back and start chewing her ears. it's hilarious! :)
