Arrival Story:
We went to the shelter in Orlando to look for a dog. Once I made eye contact with Spencer in his cage, he wouldn't stop barking. He just barked and barked and barked and barked. So I thought that maybe the only way to get him to stop would be to take him home. So he came home with us and that is where the fun began.

Bio:
"When I first came home from doggie jail, there were 2 ferrets and a rabbit, Mr. Freckles, waiting to greet me. Mr. Freckles and I got along well. We chased each other around all the time. Then he had to leave and a new big dog came to live with us. Brandy didn't like me at first. She growled a bunch (and still does sometimes.) Then mom and dad packed us all up and made us move to Pennsylvania. It was cold there and I got to see snow for the first time. I didn't like it because it was too deep and too cold and made the hairs stick together between my toes. But there were ladies everywhere that I could visit all of the time. Then a few years later, mom and dad made us move again. We came here to North Carolina. The best part is that my Papa Bill lives next door and I can see him almost everyday. He's my favorite person on the planet. Then a few months ago, we got another dog, Moby. He's hyper but pretty fun to play with. I don't like to share mom/dad snuggles with him but other than that, he's okay. Did I mention that my Papa Bill lives next door? I've got to go and see him now. Bye." Spencer was a great dog. In his last few years, he had a few health issues. He was diabetic but took insulin shots like a champ twice a day. In fact, he was so into getting his shots that he told us if they were late. Then we found that he had a melanoma tumor in his eye. It was removed but came back aggressively. In December of 2009 we had his eye removed to attempt to get the rest of the tumor. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Just six months later, he started having seizures and we had to send him on his way to join his sister. We were blessed with his presence for 12 wonderful years. Spencer, you are missed.

Stupid Melanoma

About two months ago I started growing this lump on the outside of my eye. Mom and Dad thought it was an infected tearduct but the Doc said it was a tumor. So I trekked across town to a special new doc who looked at it, took pictures and took it away. I hated the way I felt when it was first gone. I screamed and screamed but Mom didn't understand. She cried because she didn't know what to do but that only lasted a few hours. Then a month later we went back for a followup with the doc across town. He said it was a melanoma. I don't know what that is but it can't be good. They said that it might come back. They said I could have expensive shots but Mom and Dad didn't think they would work. So we are waiting to see if that sneaky thing comes back and if it does, I have to go back in. This time though they will likely take more than the tumor. Mom said it would be okay because I could then be a pirate dog with an eye patch.

Die Germs, Die

Well, it's a new year and I've been sick the whole time. I don't know what happened to me. One day I was fine spending quality time with my Papa Bill and Grandma and then the next day, I was wheezing and then my whole head swelled up like a balloon. My Papa's friend, Dr. Ken, took care of me and kept trying different things to try to get me better. They took the hair off of one leg and stuck some juice in it. I've been trying to lick at it to get the juice out but I can't seem to get it to work. And then he gave me some water stuff to drop in my eyes. Mom and Dad have to do that and they make a big fuss over me while doing it. I act like it hurts but it really doesn't. But when they see me flench, they give me extra hugs and kisses. They have also been giving me pills each day. I hate those little things. I thought my spit-it-out-the-side-of-my-mouth trick would work but Mom figured it out. Now she does mouth checks after each pill. I've tried each morning to act like I'm feeling horrible with hopes that they stay home but they still leave and go to work. But the last two days, my plan made better things happen. Each of those days, my Papa Bill came to sit with me for a little while. Well of course I had to act like I was feeling better which I really was. I love my Papa. Ever since Papa came to check on me, my face swelling has gone down. I really think he is the reason I've gotten better and not because of those pills. I wish Mom and Dad would just give me a good dose of Papa each day and leave the pills alone.

So if any of you get real sick out there, just go see my Papa Bill. He makes us granddogs better real quick.

My Right Paw

I hurt my paw yesterday while I was outside with Grandma and Papa Bill in the garden. I don't know what happened but it started hurting so I started licking it. I guess I was licking too loud and Mom heard it. She came after me and took me to the bathroom to get it cleaned up. It's a spot between my toes that hurts. It was bleeding. She put alcohol on it and then put some Neosporin and a bandaid on it. I licked the bandaid off and it stuck to my face. So she got some gauze and first aid tape and taped it up. I licked it off too. (I'm real good at licking stuff off that I don't like!) But then she came after me withThe Sock!!

The Sock is what I used to get on my foot when this would happen in Florida and Pennsylvania. She would put one of her socks on my feet and it would be harder to get off but I always figured it out and got it off in the end. However, this time, she out smarted me. She put a sock on and then used first-aid tape around it and then put a my winter boots on top of it. There's just no way I can get that thing off. I have just given up. I am doomed to wear a sock and boot on my front right paw forever!
