 Quick Bio:
Likes: being included, car rides, swimming, dog runs, Central Park!

Pet-Peeves: Ollie doesn't like it when people try to get close to his car.

Favorite Toy: Ollie disdains stuffed animals, but enjoys a good rawhide, stick or Greenie. If it is an especially nice one, he will bury it.

Favorite Food: Ollie's favorite food is fish - raw, fried, baked, grilled... He is not a beggar at all, except for fish.

Favorite Walk: From 9pm to 9am, Central Park is legally leash-free for dogs. Ollie is in heaven on his mornings walks around the Great Lawn and his swims in the Lake.

Arrival Story: In the summer of 2000, Amy and her brother Craig were scouring www.petfinder.org (a fabulous website) for a new canine companion for Amy. Making excellent use of worktime, they finally settled on a border collie mix named Jamieson the Brilliant. Jamieson was at a no-kill shelter in Yukon, OK called Pets 'N People. Countless lunches were munched while discussing Jamieson's potential as not only a pet, but also as a co-worker at Copyleft. But, alas, no one took action.
Later that summer, in mid-August, Steve, Andy & Amy started on a cross-country driving vacation from CA to home in NJ. After two fun-filled weeks in California and the fantastic national parks in Utah, Andy vacated his spot in the backseat of the Civic to spend more time with Jori and Steve & Amy drove on -- backseat empty.
Bored to tears with the interstate, Steve and Amy drove along Old Rte 66 for a stretch in Oklahoma, enjoying the cool old motels and diners. Around lunchtime, they picked out a local restaurant that looked full of, well, locals. Steve ordered a hamburger that turned out to be as big as his face, but Amy stuck with the good ole grilled cheese sandwich. But, when the waitress politely asked whether it would be "white cheese or yellow cheese," Amy fell into a deep funk. You see, it depressed her a lot to realize that there was a place in this great nation where cheese had been replaced by "cheese-food" which was best described by its color.
Steve devoured his burger, but cheese-snob Amy just couldn't muster any enthusiasm for yellow cheese on white instead of her favorite swiss on rye. So, the near-by Taco Bell would have to supply lunchtime sustenance for this erstwhile vegetarian. Steve and Amy amused themselves with the jingoistic bumper sticker art on the maroon Buick in front of them in the drive-thru line. But, when it was their turn at the window, they were dumbstruck as the surprised clerk told them, "This has never happened before, but the lady in front of you just bought your lunch. She said that God told her to do it." Shocked, alarmed and thrilled, Steve sped the car into the larger parking lot in hopes of finding their lunch-Samaritan. Alas, she was gone.
Riding high on the cloud of their divine bean burrito and medium Dr. Pepper, Amy & Steve photographed their food extensively (on the off-chance that the photos would later perform miraculous healings and the like) and, though he was full-to-bursting from the face-sized burger, Steve managed to swallow several bites as well (you just never know).
So cruising along Rte 66, Amy's funk dissolved by the burrito of God, the blue Civic came to a fork in the road with a large sign and an arrow. The arrow pointed left and the sign read "Yukon." Why not? they thought and took the fork. And just as they were discussing whether or not to ask a stranger where the dog shelter was located, they stopped at a light and another sign appeared with another left-pointing arrow and "animal shelter." Too dazed to protest, they followed the sign.
Steve rushed inside to see if Jamieson was still there, for surely there was a reason that they came to this very place. But, Amy was unsure and lingered outside in the parking lot in the mind-numbing heat of central Oklahoma in August. Soon, she caved however and they were both inside chatting excitedly with Anita, a.k.a. God's gift to homeless dogs in the greater OKC area.
Anita knew every dog in her care by name and by personality. She knew who got along, who didn't and what was special about them. In fact, she told them that she had recently traded in her sedan for an RV so that she could go places with her 7 dogs. Amy and Steve were smitten - with Anita.
Anita encouraged them to play with the dogs in the play-yard where there were toys and a pool and plenty of fun to be had. So soon Amy and Steve were muddy and hot and surrounded by dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages. Now determined to pick a dog but quite undecided and deluged, Amy walked to a far corner of the play-yard and squatted down to see who would follow. Along came Neptune, a shaggy black and white guy with gawky, long legs and a long noodle of a tail to match. He was curious and interested in some love. Amy was smitten - this time with Neptune.
After a few forms and questions, the kind folks at Pets 'N People decided that their Neptune could go home with Amy & Steve, even if home was still far away. And, several days and hundreds of miles later, Neptune chose his new name as surely as his new people -- now he goes by Ollie.

Bio: Ollie just moved to NYC. Many passers-by have seriously questioned his humans' sanity in moving such a large and wonderful "beast" from the country to the city, but Ollie knows that life just got sooo much more interesting during the week. Now he meets and greets at his new favorite dog runs many times per day and gets his long, early morning walks & swims in Central Park and, best of all, adds many admirers to his fan club everytime he steps out of the building.
