Arrival Story:
We got Simon from a classified ad in the paper. Sadly, looking back, we think we bought him from a broker and she got him from a puppy mill. We have educated ourselves on puppy mills and we try to educate others in the hope that they can one day be shut down. Please don't support puppy mills! Don't buy that puppy in the pet store window! The poor pups are prisoners of greed. Buy from a reputable breeder or rescue. Simon came by his nickname "Diamond Simon" honestly. When he was about 7 months old, he used to like to (and still does) nuzzle up to my neck. Well he was in his puppy chewing stage and I heard the noise "chomp, chomp, gulp!" Well, I reached up and touched my neck and the diamond drop I always wore was gone. The diamond had a lot of sentimental value as it was the first one my husband bought me. After 5 days of poop patrol and an X-Ray, we never did find that diamond and so that's how Simon got his nickname. :o) Expensive little booger. ;o) ***** I love the Maltese breed. When my beloved Shih Tzu Barney died, I thought about getting another Shih Tzu. Barney wasn't much of a lap dog and I really wanted a lap dog. I took a test on the Purina website on matching the best dog to me. Well, Maltese matched up 100%. I had never even heard of Maltese at that point. I started researching the breed and found out that their history goes back several thousand years. They are known as comforter dogs and while some dogs are bred for their hunting skills, others for their herding or ratting skills, Maltese were bred specifically to be companion dogs and they do their job very well! They are lap lovers and just want to be near their people all the time. My first love were Pekingese as my mom bred them when I was a little girl and the first dog of my very own was a Peke named PeiWei. I have a penchant for white dogs; Bichon Frise, West Highland White Terriers, etc. and I still love Shih Tzus (especially black and white ones) I also have a fondness for Bulldogs, English and French bullies are wonderful! And since coming to Dogster, I am falling in love with Siberian Huskies. I love all dogs but these breeds are a few of my favorites. *****
