Moving Cows Around
Notes: 8-3-05 UPDATE - Alex underwent heartworm treatment with NO complications. He's now healthy and active and ready for a new home. Alex's fostermom says he's a wonderful, no-problem dog ... and he's handsome too! Alex gets along well with the other dogs in his fosterhome ,as well as the three little boys. He's even learning how to make himself useful by rounding up the cows. Alex's foster dad reports that Alex shows real cow sense and a willingness to follow instruction to help move the cattle where they need to go. Alex is not at all hyper and was a complete gentleman at his very first Petco adoption meet and greet.
6-8-05 Alex was abandoned at a boarding kennel near Austin, Tx. They contacted Catahoula Rescue, and one of our wonderful fostermoms went and picked him up. Alex appears to be a heeler/Catahoula mix. His age is estimated at just under 1 year old. This is about the age that these types of dogs are given up by the people that acquire them when they are cute puppies. As that cute puppy grows, the people find that they are not ready for the commitment required to raise an intelligent, active dog.
Catahoula Rescue, Inc. is an all volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit corportation. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The fosterhomes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered if old enough. They have been wormed and tested for heartworms if over 4 months of age when rescued. All dogs are on heartworm preventative. We require a minimum $100 adoption fee to help offset these costs.
If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, the first step is to complete the online adoption application available at our main website www.catahoularescue.com From the homepage, follow the link "How to Adopt". Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the fosterparent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue.
