Sam loved being with me, walking next to me, holding my hand in his mouth. He loved the little Chihuahuas and protected them.

Arrival Story:
I moved to Norco in '94. I had just adopted my lab, Fred, and felt bad because he was alone while I was at work. I went to the local animal shelter to look for him a friend. I was looking at a Golden but he wasn't available yet. The woman that ran the shelter said to me, "YOU WANT THIS DOG" and pointed at this 11 month old Shepherd type dog. I said "no, I don't want that dog". I told her he would probably eat my goat, so she took Sammy and put him in a pen with their goats, sheep, horses etc. Poor baby, he hid in the corner, scared to bits. Well, we argued back and forth until she told me on no uncertain terms, "you want that dog because he's been here for 4 months and today is his last day, YOU WANT THIS DOG." I said "you're right, I want that dog". I am so grateful that she told me what was going to happen if I didn't take him as he was my best friend. Sammy was the greatest dog in the world. He was my faithful companion, my friend and my protector until 2005 when I lost him to kidney failure. I miss his silly grin so very much. I love you Sammy.
Bio:
Sam loved to carry things he for me. He would take bags, buckets, cans, didn't matter as long as he was helping me! He love the Chihuahua's too, especially Taco. He would lay on the floor so they could both run over top of him! He used to hold Taco's little head in his big old mouth, scared me the first time it happened, but he never hurt her, he loved her so much. Sammy even loved his Vet. He didn't want to be there but he was very good and never acted up. When it was time to leave though, he would grab my sleeve or pants legs, grinning from ear to ear, drag me through the front office and out the door! He weighed more than me until he got sick. It gets pretty windy here, sometimes gusts of 60 or more mph. I would hold onto Sammy's collar when going out to feed the horses to keep from blowing over. God, I miss him so much.
