Arrival Story:
I saw his picture at the vet's office, free to a good home, and called the owners to direct them to American Bulldog Rescue. ABR asked me to temperment test him, so we met at the local mall. Well, it was love at first sight! Head over heels. I took him in to foster, and long story short, he is staying forever. Having just lost a bulldog a few months prior, Swee'Pea just stole my heart and I stole his, too. The picture of us together is the moment we met. He tends to bite people when he meets them, so clearly we had something special here!

Bio:
Swee'Pea was a gift for a teenager, and he was left behind when the boy moved out. He was kept for his 9 years in a small fenced yard on a busy corner, where passers by would tease and harass him almost daily. Needless to say, this already protective dog has a strong dislike for strangers, particularly their hands! He is so gentle with the family, it's amazing. He sleeps under the covers with me every night and follows me everywhere all day. We are a match made in heaven! No more concrete to sleep on, sunburned eyelids and ears, mosquito bites, ant bites, and freezing cold winters for him. He was kept outdoors in all weather, or brought in at night to his crate in the basement without even a cushion inside. He has known a life of hard knocks, lonliness, and isolation, as well as human cruelty, but his heart is so soft and loving. I am grateful every day that I can give this dog a chance to really live. He delights in every simple pleasure, from a kiss on the nose to the trips to the beach and state parks. He appreciates everything. We adore him!
