Arrival Story:
Ralphie was found on Petfinder.com under an Urgent! listing. A wonderful woman in rural Ohio was saving as many pets as possible each week from being gassed at her local pound. As there are no shelters in her area, the animals only get one week to live. She was listing them nationwide, taking as many as she could house on her property until they could be adopted. Ralphie looked heartbroken with a rope leash around his neck and only two days left. I couldn't forget his sweet face and realized drastic action had to be taken. I wired $50. so she could spring him and another hound facing the same fate. She waited outside animal control on their final morning and happily sprung them when the officer arrived. She took care of Ralphie and his foster brother Zeke, giving them their shots and flea baths and built heated kennels for them and many other animals waiting for new homes. We rented a car and drove 24 hours to get the boys. It was the best trip we ever took. Zeke was immediately adopted by friends. Ralphie now has a great life in NYC. He has many friends he has met at the 3 dog parks he visits and also goes everywhere he is welcome-he takes cabs, the subway, shops with Mom and even frequents the neighborhood bars.
