Arrival Story: UPDATE 4/13/05
Wow its been a while since i have updated her story. She did very well at TOPS but she never gained more function in her leg. I ended up getting a job there so she could get all the treatments she needed without having to worry about money. They got her to the point where she could walk on her leg normally and even go up and down stairs. They fixed her chiropractic problems and she was able to gain a lot of lost muscle mass.
UNFORTUNATELY her good knee is bad now...all the stress from compensating. She will probably need another surgery on that leg. Poor girl. Her knee cap keeps popping out and its affecting how she walks...and if her "good knee" isnt working she is in trouble. I will go ahead with the surgery because its not a serious one...my other dog Tequila had the same one. She is still in high spirits and has a great recovery chance. I just have to keep an eye on her and watch she doesnt try to run up the stairs or play too rough with the others. I will try to add more pics soon. I will also update when she has her surgery.

UPDATE 6/20/04
Kylie is doing great! Unfortunately her leg wasnt very functional after the surgery so I decided to take her to a very well known rehabilitation center for dogs (TOPS Veternary Rehabilitation Clinic) They really believe that she will do very well with her therapy. She has been going for only three weeks now and already there is significant improvement. She does need some sort of shoe to wear on her bad leg because the bone is shorter then the rest.
I will update soon.

UPDATE 5/4/04
Kylie had her surgery last Wednesday and is doing great! The doc repaired her hip and then went in and repaired her knee. He said that if all goes well she should have most of the function in her leg again! (something she hasent had since she was three months old). I have posted a new pic of her now. Next Wednesday she gets her stitches removed and the following Wednesday she gets the bandage taken off. Hopfully she will recover fully this time!

*Update 4/22/04*
Kylie is doing okay. She is scheduled for surgery 4/27/04 (this coming up Tuesday. I go into the vet today so he can tell me exactly what happened, show me the x-rays, and explain the surgery. He said he would be able to fix Kylie's knee too so who knows, maybe after all of this she will have a functional leg again! Thanks to everyone who has sent well wishes!! It really helps!

*Update 4/20/04*
Kylie injured herself again this past Saturday. Tequila (my other chihuahua) ran into her while outside and someone hit her at an angle that dislocated Kylie's hip. Vet said it was a freak accident that I could never had avoided. (I felt horrible and responsible for it, but it has been months since her last surgery and I was told she was clear to play with my other puppies, seeing they are the same size or smaller) Surgery is set for either this Thursday or next Tuesday. Right now Kylie is home and doing fine. She is driving me nuts because she still wants to run around and play and I wont allow her. Its like she never injured her leg at all...what a trooper!
I will update you when I get new information.
Thanks,
Jessica

Again, my friend bought this puppy, this time from a local pet store. She was cute as a button and very small. My friend thought she could keep her away from her other two Rottweilers but the puppy got out one day and got stepped on by one of her bigger dogs. She called me up one night and first asked me if I wanted to take the puppy because she couldn't take care of her anymore. I was reluctant to take her because I already had a dog so then she told me to come over because she thought the puppy was hurt. I drove to her house and found that the dog’s leg was just dangling from what seemed to be her hip joint. I pinched her pad to see if I could get any response but she didn’t move it. I checked her gums and saw that she was not in shock. I drove the puppy, along with my friend, to the emergency vet (which was a good hour away) and had x-rays taken. A hour later the results were back…she had a badly broken leg, Her bone was completely broken right below her knee and displaced. The vet said it didn’t look good and that she would need to be seen by a specialist to get surgery done. My friend did not have the money and said the only thing that she would be able to do was to euthanizee her. I was very upset by this and said that I would take her. She agreed and Kylie became mine. I took her into my vet the next day and they said they could do the surgery, but there was a risk she could damage her growth plate and end up with one leg shorter then the other. I decided on the surgery. About $900 later Kylie was all fixed up. It took about a month for her to heal up but when they removed all the bandages and the pin (total of two surgeries) we found that she could not bend her leg at all. Turns out the scar tissue is making it so the tendon is stretched out and won’t allow the leg to bend. On top of that it turned out that she did in fact have a damaged growth plate so now her leg is shorter then the other. I put down that she had three legs because she really has no real use of the fourth leg. She will randomly put weight on it but mostly she holds it up. She really hasn’t suffered any emotional distress from her ordeal…she was always spunky and playful. Everyone at the vet fell in love with her and loves when she comes and visits. Today she is 7 months old and is doing great. You would never guess she had a bum leg because she can walk and run very well. The only thing is that she cannot walk or run for very long without getting tired. I am so glad I was able to help save this little pup because she is just so full of life, truly a little angel!

Bio: Kylie was born August 19th, 2003 in Iowa. She is a mix between a Pomeranian and a Chihuahua. Besides her ears and fur she looks and acts just like a Pomeranian. Kylie has a bad leg but that doesnt slow her down. She loves to play fight with my other two chihuahuas and when she isnt doing that she is sunning herself in front of the door. Kylie was truly meant to be in my life. I hope one day to get corrective surgery done to remove the scar tissue that is causing the tendons to hold her leg straight. I also hope to find something to put on her leg that will add some length so she can walk normally, but that will have to wait till I am done with collage.
