Likes: hunting critters off-leash, swimming, belly rubs, doggie massages, being brushed, snow, naps in the sun, going with Mom wherever she is going
Pet-Peeves: not being allowed to hunt critters on-leash, being kissed on the muzzle, ear cleanings, nail trims, thunder, fireworks, the vacuum, when Mom doesn't take me with her wherever she is going
Favorite Toy: plush toys, which he promptly "kills" and tears out all the stuffing
Favorite Food: any kind of meat, peanut butter on apple slices, popcorn
Favorite Walk: the Wabash Heritage Trail - LOTS of potential critters!
Best Tricks: putting his arm around anyone who sits by him on "his" loveseat, shaking "his booty" on command after a bath
Arrival Story: Love at first sight at the Tippecanoe County Humane Society, Lafayette, IN, February 2, 2oo2. Dud (named "Chocolate," by the TCHS, was a surrender with a brother (the brother was already on "hold," or I would have have adopted him, too!). I took "Chocolate" into the puppy room, and after bouncing around for a few minutes, this adorable boy flopped down, put his chin on my shoe, and fell asleep. There was NO question that he was "The One!"
Bio: Dudley is an exceptional dog: very dignified, very patient, very sweet, very gentle and VERY stubborn. He loves to say "hello!" to babies, small children and anyone with a physical disability, AND he has a "greeting circuit" on his morning walk - certain neighbors he takes me to the door to visit!!! Although he has never been (and never will be ;-)) a papa, Dud is wonderful with young puppies (very gentle and fatherly!), and also, older and infirm dogs (he just seems to know). He is a terrific big brother to his two sisters, as well.
I'm hoping to get Dud certified as a CGC by the end of the year so we can do therapy visits and also, so he can become a canine listener for children learning to read. When not "hunting" or napping, Dudley dabbles in astronomy, sailing, stamp-collecting and taxidermy. He also enjoys historical novels, the Nature Channel, classical jazz, and chess.

I've Been On Dogster Since:
Ah, Spring! Our daily frolic on the Wabash Heritage Trail, the sun, running, swimming, and best of all ... CRITTERS!!! Since my last diary entry I have added three groundhogs, one possum and one raccoon to my tally, bringing my spring-kill total to six (not bad, considering I have arthritis in one of my front legs from a pin after being hit by that horrible, speeding, Jeep Cherokee!).
Mommy takes us out during the day in an effort to prevent my hunting forays (she knows we need to play off-leash, and she knows I need to be "a dog," but sometimes she still cries when I do my "thing"), but to no avail. I WILL find them, be they in tree, hole or rotted stump. I am THE (dog)MAN!
Spring at last! Today, I spied a groundhog obliviously feasting on the hillside near the park offices and away I dashed! He was a small specimen, but still, a dogman must hone his skills early in the hunting season! The pudgy vermin had no chance against my hunting prowess.
