Heartworm Treatment Numero Uno

So a couple weeks ago I went to the vet again (terribly boring place- no tennis balls! The ride there is fun though!) and they made me go night night for a while- I had this great dream about tennis balls, and just as I was shoving the fifth one in my mouth and my cheeks were bulging real big from all of them, I woke up in this smelly cage! Turns out while I was napping, they took X-rays to see how bad them little wormy thingies were. They did some other stuff too, like a health screening and a urinalysis and all those big words I don't understand. They gave Paw Paw these pills I had to take for two weeks, which was fine with me because it meant I got treats four times a day- how cool is that?!

Then today I went back again for my first treatment- Mom and Paw Paw were so worried about me, but I did just fine! I didn't like having to stay there all night long with no tennis balls to keep me company, but I survived somehow. I'm back home now- you wouldn't notice a difference! I keep trying to bounce around, but the humans keep saying, "Settle down, Duke- Calm down!" Pfft, the only time I am calm is when I am asleep dreaming about tennis balls.

I'm supposed to stay "quiet" for a whole month long- we'll just see how that goes, heh heh! Then I have to go for- get this- ANOTHER treatment. You'd think the vet would get tired of me after a while, but I can't say I blame them- I mean, look at this face??

Heartworms!

I just got back from the vet a while ago- the humans finally got enough money for me to get started on Heartguard, so I had to go get tested before then. Well darn if I didn't come up positive! I'm staying with Paw Paw once again, and him and Mom are going to work out a payment plan with the vet. That's what they get for not getting me started sooner! Not gonna be happy for me though- I'll have to stay CONFINED for a whole month after each of my two treatments!!! No more fetch for a while!! But the humans have promised me tons of special treatment and all the squeaky toys I want, even if I do rip them up in a couple of seconds! It probably won't be until next month or so before I start my treatments, so in the meantime I'm going to enjoy all the fetch I can get the humans to take me out for (which will be plenty- they already promised). Be praying for me- I'm not gonna be a happy pup for a while!

My Tail of Devotion for Duke

Duke, you big clown, you're the best dog anyone could ask for. Every time you see me, you act like you haven't seen me in years, and are so happy, if you were a human, I'm sure you'd cry. You love to play ball, but in the end, it's all about loving your humans. Even if you are crazy and hyper, I love you anyway. I don't know who your humans were before you came into my life, but they were insane to let you go. You're my buddy, Duke, and always will be.

Duke's Big Day

Wow, I had a great day today! First of all, after my first week with Dad, I'm living at Mom's house now because Dad couldn't get a fence up for me. I have to stay tied up though, at least for a little while, because the humans are doing some stuff on the house and don't want me getting under there messing stuff up. Mom's been taking me for daily walks of at least a mile, sometimes two, and I'm getting really good on a leash.

Today, as a reward for my good behavior, Mom took me behind the house into the woods and closed the back gate so I couldn't get up there to the house. We walked around a bit on the leash and then, once Mom was sure I wouldn't run off, she let me off the leash and we played a great game of fetch! I never wanted to return the ball, of course, but if she started to ignore me I'd finally bring it back. Then we went farther into the woods and I discovered my new love: water! There's a pond back there, and I dove right in! Mom and I played some more fetch, this time I had to go in the water to get the ball. So much fun! After about an hour of play, play, play, Mom said it was time to go home. She gave me an icky bath, but I didn't mind it so much because I was still so happy from the fun I had had before! Mom says that, if I'm good, we'll go out into the woods any day she doesn't have to work. YAY!

My First Day!

Wow, what a big day! Not only is it my first day on Dogster, but also with my new family! They seem to be great people, now if they would just decide on a name!

First of all, let me tell you about how me and my new family came to be. I was wandering around one day when this truck thing stopped and a man with a funny looking stick got out. Of course, I ran up to greet him, and the next thing I know, I'm in a cage in the back of the truck! After a long ride, I was put into a bigger cage and there were lots of other dogs around me and one with a broken leg in my kennel. We got along okay, but he was kind of quiet. Anyway, after a long and lonely night, this one person saw me and pet me and stuff, and boy was I happy! The day after that, she came with a funny flashing thing, and the day after that she finally took me out for a walk and then I got to go onto this place called the "cat porch" 'cause they wanted to see if I liked to eat kitties for dinner, bol. Of course, I was more interested in eating their food than them. Cat food doesn't have claws or make funny noises or run.

A couple of days later I took a car ride to a place called the vets and they stuck a needle thingy in me, which I wasen't too happy about, of course. Then back at the cage place they gave me medicine and drew blood for a heartworm test, which came back negative, of course. Finally on the day after that they brought me out, introduced me to my new human, and then let me out on a side yard to burn off some energy. I found a tennis ball to play with and when they were about to walk out the door, they noticed I still had the ball, but the person said I could keep it. So I played with it all of the way home and snoozed a bit, then got home and played with it some more and got to know my new family. I think this family is gonna be a keeper! They still haven't decided on a name, but I've heard that Roscoe, Diego, Marco, and Nitro are the ones being discussed. It doesn't matter to me, just give me a name and call me by it for crying out loud! I already have some nicknames, like Bubba, Bud, and Kujo. They're crazy, but I think I like 'em!
