Quick Bio:
-purebred-deaf

Birthday:
April 4th 1998

Likes:
Going for walks, other dogs, sleeping on my bed, playing in the snow, escaping and running around the front lawn like a maniac

Pet-Peeves:
Balloons, when people come and go, and having his ears touched (I think he's sensitive about them because he's deaf.)

Favorite Toy:
His squeaky Boodah thing, rawhide bones.

Favorite Food:
Cheese, steak and chicken (yes we spoil him.)

Favorite Walk:
Anywhere! He loves to get out of the house.

Best Tricks:
He knows sit, lay down, and good boy just by hand signals. He also gives hugs.

Arrival Story:
When my family first moved into our new house we wanted to get a dog. Our beloved mutt Mikey went to the bridge before we moved and we felt ready to bring a new dog into the family. We went to a local pet store and checked out some puppies. We saw this little white boxer puppy and didn't even look at any other pups. The people there told us he was born deaf but that just made us want him more. We immediately purchased him after the people told us a breeder sold him to the pet store because he was all white and couldn't be bred or shown. His parents were purebred champions, or so we were told, and apparently the breeder said he just wanted to get rid of a useless pup. Even if we had second thoughts about taking in a deaf dog, they disappeared when we heard Jake was just thrown away like garbage. We bought him that very day, brought him home, and have loved him ever since.

Bio:
My family didn't realize at first how much work taking in a deaf puppy would be. My mother, however, knows sign language and we taught him hand signals for sit, lay down, good boy, bad boy and go. Jake is very adept at reading facial expressions... if you smile at him he wags his tail. And he turned out to be an amazing watch dog. He "hears" cars pulling into the driveway and will be standing at the door wagging his tail when someone comes home. We think his sense of smell is heightened to make up for his inability to hear. He really is an amazing dog even though he can be unpredictable.
