Tig's Thoughts

Spring 2006

Snowtime is over and winter turned out to be cold and snowy. I remembered how to catch snowballs. The snow is perfect for rolling around in especially to wash my face.

There are birds in the yard, the ones with the red belly who like to eat worms. They tease and pretend to be hurt and when I go see they let me get real close and then fly away. Silly birds.

Mom's talking about planting and putting out mulch, which I think is chopped up trees. Something about no grass growing where us dogs run all the time, I dunno, but I'll help do the work.

Oh, we've been walking in the "hood", that's what people around here call our territory. My muscles are stronger and my feet are tougher. Rough as sandpaper mom says. I got this funny looking dog halter, people think it's a muzzle, whatever that is, but it's not. I wonder if mom thinks I'm a small horse? For sure I don't get to pull mom around with that thing on my head. I'm kinda glad because mom says walking with me is enjoyable now. I've been having fun all along, but mom's arms and back are weaker and sometimes I forget not to pull when I catch the scent of a dog's mark. Us boys have this thing about hiking a leg, it's involuntary, nobody taught me how to do it either.

Since I'm almost 7, I figured it was time to stop acting like a puppy all the time. I watched my little brother with mom one day. He likes to lay his head on her so I tried it and made mom smile. I like it a lot too. Sometimes I lay between two people and it feels safe and warm. I'm independent and confident about my place in the pack so it's ok to relax and stop worrying.
