Arrival Story: I'd wanted a greyhound for a long time. When I finally bought a house, it was time. I applied at Puget Sound Greyhound Association. At that time, they were gettng dogs from a AAA track in Orlando. I told them I didn't care about gender or color, that I just wanted a dog they thought would be okay on his own while I was at work. They were thrilled. So many people want females, non-brindles and/or cat-safe dogs. They had one who was close to being put down because he'd almost reached the time limit for getting adopted. They said he was quiet and sweet and didn't seem to need other dogs. I said "send him up." Then I looked at their website and saw a picture of "Grey's Shellack." Who would name a dog after a can of paint? Jeesh! His picture was so homely-looking I almost had second thoughts. But when I picked him up at the airport (Delta flew them free as "lost baggage"), I was awestruck by his handsomeness. Someone on the track had writtten "El Guapo" on his muzzle. It wasn't until months later that I found out that mean "the handsome one" in Spanish. Nigel adapted well to retired life. He was Top Dog at obedience school. He's my best bud, and the best thing that ever happened to me.

Bio: In December Nigel was taken by bone cancer. He will always be my heart dog. I miss him so much. I know he awaits me at the Rainbow Bridge. It wasn't long before his spirit nudged me to adopt another brindle greyhound, and now I have Rudolf Hammilton Right, aka Rudy. He's about as different as possible in personality and I often think I can hear Nigel snickering from on high as he watches me deal with young, super-energetic Rudy, who I suspect is really a lab in a greyhound suit. I love ya, Nigel.
