Arrival Story:
I called Contra Costa Humane Society to see if there were any dogs available for adoption that weren't on their website. They told me about their newest rescue from the pound - a sort of white basset hound/terrier/PBGV mix with a curly tail and out-turned feet. My husband and I really wanted to meet him that night but his foster parents weren't available. We set up a meeting for the next night but I was torn because my childhood dog had just died and I felt unsure about getting another dog so soon. I told my husband that I was picturing a dog named "Dudley" in my head and if the dog we met didn't look like a "Dudley," then he wasn't the one for us. The next night, we went to meet him on pins and needles - he came bounding into the room looking like a complete Dudley and I burst into tears - he was the one!

Bio:
Dudley was found at a BART station and was about to be destroyed at the pound. A woman adopted him, then brought him back because her husband "didn't like him." The pound decided that he was "male-aggressive" and was going to destroy him that day. Contra Costa Humane Society wanted to rescue him but the pound said he would be a "liability." The pound finally relinquished him after CCHS signed waivers saying that they would be responsible if he hurt anyone. Turns out, he's completely gentle. Our wonderful vet, Dr. Ervin, got rid of all his worms and skin problems - he grew a whole new coat and gained 10 pounds.
