Arrival Story:
While sailing off the coast of Martha's Vineyard with legendary CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite on his boat the "Wyntje", Mr Cronkite mentioned the trouble his dear friend, Broadway producer, Alexander Cohen was having finding a decent home for a very little dog he had purchased as a gift for the star of his current Broadway show. You see, everytime he attempted to give the little Papillion to the well known star, she declined to accept it, saying she was far too busy with the show to care for a little puppy. Meanwhile, the little Papillon (which Mr. Cohen coined "Sophie") was to remain the last of her litter to bond with an owner: trapped in a cage at the breeder's indefinitely. In a moment of good fortune, I expressed my sincere interest to own such a little dog to Mr. Cronkite who in turn immediately contacted Mr. Cohen, who was thrilled to have found a potential home for Miss Sophie. Three days later I flew into Manhattan where I was introduced to Mr. Cohen and Hildy Parks at their fabulous high rise apartment by Mr. Cronkite's Bikram teaching daughter- Nancy Cronkite. The Breeder was there. Papers were signed. Toasts were made. And Sophie was mine. We walked together down old Broadway: Sophie was "The Star of the Show".

Bio:
After having Sophie for a few weeks, I realized that I had a choice to make: either I give Sophie a more distiguished name, or I embellish the name she had already been given. I decided on the latter. Since she was of show biz origins, I though a show bizy surname would be right for her. I chose Weinstein. A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ABOUT A YEAR LATER: Just for kicks, I wanted to see if any one out there online had registered the name "Sophie Weinstein". So I punched the name into google .com. This is what I found: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en &ie=ISO-8859-1&q=sophie+weinstein Notice three names down, under Lauren Bacall the name Sophie Weinstein appears. Now this was a shock to me. And at first i thought it must be some strange mix-up or joke. So I click on the link to find out what the rest of the story is: http://www.us-israel.org/jsource/b iography/bacall.html This link looks pretty ligit. And as I read on I was dumbstruck to learn of a most odd coincidence. It read..." Lauren Bacall was born Betty Joan Perske on September 16, 1924. She spent her earliest years in Brooklyn. When she was six years old, her parents divorced, and she and her mother relocated to Manhattan. An only child, Bacall was brought up in the close-knit, extended Weinstein family. In addition to her mother, Natalie Bacal (who changed her and her daughters last name to the Romanian version of Weinstein), Bacall was especially close to her grandmother Sophie. Her maternal grandfather, Max Weinstein, had started life in America as a push-cart peddler and quickly earned enough to buy a small candy store in the Bronx. He died at age fifty-five, but wife Sophie Weinstein managed the candy store successfully for years to come." WHY IS THIS ALL SO AMAZING? The star of Alexander Cohen's Broadway show was Lauren (Weinstein) Bacall.
