Arrival Story: We adopted Pixel from a military family that was moving out-of-state. He had originally belonged to at least one other family before them. His name at that time was Apollo and he rarely responded to it. We were told he wasn't too affectionate. That quickly changed. We changed his name (since we felt a two-syllable name would be easier for him to understand) and discovered that he was really a big velcro dog full of love. And, yes, he does think he is pixelly. Pixelly enough to fit onto a lap. Which he doesn't. Bio: Pixel hates to be alone. When we first got him, he was 2 years old. We had wanted to find a companion for Molly, our husky who had just lost her lifelong mate. Molly passed away shortly after we got Pixel. We didn't want Pixel to be alone, so we adopted Lucy from husky rescue. Lucy was somewhere between 8-10 years old. They had an age difference, but liked each other. Lucy's arthritis got bad and even with medication, she stopped being active, didn't want to play or take walks with Pixel. She just wanted to nap more and to lie down in the sun. Lucy passed away peacefully in her sleep one wintery night. So we looked around and were fortunately enough to hear about Cheyenne needing a home. They nap near each other, play with each other, and have a great relationship. Chey is Pixel's bratty kid sister, even though there's only a one-year age difference between them.
UPDATE: Pixel passed away suddenly on October 3, 2010. His temperature went up to 106.7 and blood pressure went over 300. He couldn't get up and we had to use a lift. We rushed him to the emergency vet, and they tried to cool him down, gave him an iv of antibiotics, etc., but his temperature kept rising, and he got even weaker. He finally just closed his eyes and lied down. We said goodbye and waited while he fell asleep for the last time. We miss him very much and will always love him. I've Been On Dogster Since:
