Arrival Story:
Tara was spotted swimming in a ship channel that she couldn't possibly get out of. Some kind soul on a passing car ferry made the ferry stop and jumped in the channel to get her out. From there, she made her way to the Aransas County Humane Society. When she arrived, she was bloated up FULL of worms and very skinny. I showed up about 2.5 weeks after they got her looking for a puppy. As I looked over all the puppies in the pen, most of them were barking and jumping up at the fence. Except this one. She just sat there and looked at me with the sweetest little doggy eyes I'd ever seen, absolutely quiet. When I got down to her level and offered a hand, she sniffed and seemed friendly enough, but was still very subdued. I asked the attendant to get her out, and I held her in my lap and talked to her. They told me her story, and said she'd just been wormed again the day before, which might explain her lethargy. They said I could take her home for a one week trial and bring her back if it didn't work out. So I took her home. I was back the following Saturday with a check for her adoption fee. She's gone from a bony 12" tall 10lb pup, around 3 months old, to 21" tall and 43lbs. She loves to play with other dogs and people, and *tries* to play with cats, mostly unsuccessfully.

Bio:
Tara was pretty much crate trained already from her time at the Humane Society. From the first night I brought her home, I encouraged her to sleep on the bed with me. She learned "outside" very quickly - within 6 hours of bringing her home, she learned to whine near the door when she needed out. Every time I took her out that day, I made her sit when we got in so I could take the leash off. She inferred all by herself that she should also sit for me to put the leash on before we went out! She was a very quiet puppy. She averaged one bark per day for a long time. Now she only barks when there is noise outside my home, and rarely when playing. Anything that belongs to her was handed to her by me, and anything I didn't hand her isn't hers. She's never chewed anything I didn't give her. She rides quietly in the car. I would have thought her experience in the ship channel would have made her fear water, but she LOVES water! Ponds, pools, and water bowls. She doesn't like getting her feet wet when it's raining, though.

I'll sit when I feel like it.

When I woke up this morning, momma kissed me on the forehead and wished me a Happy Anniversary. It was one year ago today that we met at the Humane Society, and momma took me home. I can't imagine living anywhere else than with my mom and Devi and Olivia. Devi and I each got an egg mixed with our breakfast this morning, and then we got our heartworm pills and a chicken chip. This might be a good day for food treats!

Mom let me stay out of my crate all day today while she was at work!!!!! Woo hoo!!!! When she came home for lunch, and again when she got home after work, I was just sleeping on the couch being the good dog she always tells me I am. She says she's VERY proud of me :) Mom says I should be guarding the house while she's gone, though. I'm not really sure what she means by that.

Much better!

Mom took me and Devi for a walk around the block yesterday evening. Today we went to the bank and got our dog cookies, and then we went to a place where mom talked to some guy, and then she rolled all the windows up and the guy sprayed the car down with water. Then we pulled into this little tunnel and a thing went all around the car spraying it with stuff. That was a little freaky, but the guy loved me and Devi, especially Devi.

This evening, mom put my harness on me and we went out for a 2 mile run. Well, I ran, mom just rode along on her little scooter. I still have enough energy to play with Devi. I really like to grab her collar and swing her around like a rope toy. I don't understand why mom doesn't approve of that.. it's so much fun!
