Jakey Boy, Jakey Doodle, Jakey Doo, Jakey or Yakey

Doggie Dynamics:

Sun Sign:
Quick Bio:
-dog rescue

Me & my son Ryan (whose dog he REALLY is)

Lightning & thunder - he HATES it when the electricity goes off ! He will always jump in the bed & lay on top of me trembling and panting. He also goes crazy when he see a blimp or a plane trailing a message - he stands on his hind legs barking

Favorite Toy:
Jake doesn't care for toys - but he loves the games that Ryan plays with him.

Favorite Food:
He got hooked on canned food after he got inflammatory bowel disease but he loves ANY food.

Favorite Walk:
Anywhere we happened to be with him

Best Tricks:
He's MUCH too smart to fall for that!

Arrival Story:
Ryan found him in the back yard about 12 years ago. He went outside and petted him and pointed Jake toward the street. When Ryan went back in the house, Jake sat on the back porch & howled pitifully for about 10 minutes. Ryan couldn't stand him crying so he's been our precious Jakey ever since. He was fully grown and very well trained when we found him so I don't know exactly how old he is.

Jakey was always such an active and alert dog & was always our virtual shadow. He was very healthy all his life until he developed inflammatory bowel disease the summer of 2005. He lost about 12 lbs & was throwing up nearly every day. Thanks to my vet who put him on prednisone & metronidazole, Jakey got much better over the months & gained back 10 lbs. Then on February 2, 2006, Jake suddenly couldn't get up on his own. His hind legs were weak & shaky. We were totally panicked! But by the next morning he was able to walk around a little if we helped him up. We rushed him to the vet & he upped the prednisone. He got better on the high dose of prednisone but when I had to decrease it again he gradually started getting worse. Over the next three weeks he became weaker and weaker until he couldn't get up at all and had to be carried outside to pee. As sick as he was he never had an accident in the house. He knew he was sick but he still loved his canned food and we spoiled him terribly to keep his spirits up. My vet said that even though he had fairly severe arthritis in his hips & spine that he may have had a spinal lymphoma.

Jakey's death:
Yesterday (Feb 24) was his worst day - he couldn't stand but for a few seconds when we would lift him on his feet. It absolutely broke our hearts to put him to sleep but he was ready. We decided to have a private cremation so he can be with us always.

My Jakey Boy - the sweetest, silliest, most devoted dog ever! You left us 2 years ago today, sweet boy. I'll never forget the look in your eyes when you got sick about 3 weeks before the end - you looked so helpless, so confused, and you didn't know what was wrong - why you suddenly couldn't stand or walk for more than a few seconds. You lay on your bed & kept your head down but looked up at me with those eyes - begging me to stay in the room with you. You didn't want us to be out of your sight. It just broke our hearts to see our precious Jakey that way - you always wanted to be right beside either me or Ryan. Jake, I miss you still - EVERY DAY! I know you were so happy to see Bogart at the bridge when he left us last summer. And you have some great friends on Dogster - especially Jazz-Marie who never forgets to leave you a rosette or a sweet message. I love you, Jake and I always will. Until we meet again one day, don't forget your Mama.

I can't believe it's been almost 4 months since you left us, my Jakey Doodle. You were the most devoted dog to your family. Our big strong protector! And yet you were the biggest weenie & scaredy-cat. I still cry when I see one of those planes fly over trailing a big banner. That would make you absolutely HYSTERICAL! You'd dance across the yard on your hind legs with a high-pitched bark that sounded like a girl. You big sissy! I loved you so much for so long and I thank God that He let us have each other for 12 wonderful years. I will always treasure your memory, Jakey! Love, Mama

Mama got my ashes today and brought me home. I'm in a big cedar box in a place of honor on the coffee table. I sure wish I was up on the couch with Mama though so I could stretch out with my head in her lap. She misses me a lot and had a little crying spell when there was a thunderstorm because that's when I used to get so scared. I always hated thunder and lightning and when the lights went out I always freaked out and jumped on top of Mama. She never got mad at me because she knew I was scared so she would just hold me tight and whisper, "It's allright, Jakey". I think I miss her as much as she misses me even though heaven is a mighty nice place.
