Arrival Story:
My friend's beautiful tan chihuahua Chaquita 'accidentally' (they don't believe in spaying) became pregnant by the neighbor's small male dog (breed unknown). Chaquita had five puppies on December 24th 2005, 2 died at birth and the third died a few days later. I wasn't sure that these last two would make it, but thankfully they did and after much begging from me for the puppies, my friend's mother decided to give me the female.

Monkeying Around

Last round of shots

Yesterday, she had her last round of shots.
She squealed and yelped and tried to bite the nice lady who was holding her.

She weighs 3.7 lbs! I thought she'd have gained more than that.

We found out she has MANGE. She got it from her mom while she was breastfeeding, but it's not contagious to anyone or anything else. I just have to rub this yellow stuff on it twice a day until her hair grows back in that spot, it's called "Goodwinol Ointment".

A black labrador I fostered had the same thing, except we had to give her baths in it (it smelled like rotten eggs), that was a nightmare!

He also gave us 'Interceptor' to prevent heartworm disease, I'm supposed to start treating her once a month starting on the 14th.

When the vet was finished giving her the shots, the lady let Buttercup go, and she jumped into my arms and tried to hide. I feel so bad that she got hurt by the needles!

Also, my sister's new Catahoula puppy, Charlie is here!
Charlie and Buttercup love each other and keep trying to play together, but Charlie doesn't realize that she's so big and keeps stepping on Buttercup.

They're cute though and Charlie's Dogster page should be up soon!

Name Change/Traveling Soon

Gah, so we changed her name, Maisy just didn't fit like we thought it would.
Maisy is an innocent name, but Princess Buttercup (from The Princess Bride) has some attitude. My sister is about to get a 5 month old female Catahoula (naming her Charlie).

We're also going to be visiting family soon in Texarkana and Queen City (April 27th) for a family reunion.

We're going to drive 8 hours there (and back), with both of the dogs and stay anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks.

I'll have to carry her with me everywhere, to every family member's house!
I really hope that she is completely potty trained by then, because my family members are not particularly animal lovers.

But at least she's pretty good in the car though and Charlie's current owner always drives with her in the car so they should be fine.

She had her first Vet visit yesterday and received her first set of shots and de-worming pills (due again in three weeks). She weighs just 3 pounds!

She also likes our vet and doesn't mind riding in the car that much as long as she sits behind my head and on my shoulders.
