Arrival Story:
I never knew that there had been a dog pound near my home, until one day when i drove by it and saw dogs in the back of this building that I had always thought that it was some kind of abandoned house. As I was looking at the dogs, the first one that caught my attention was Max. I never thought I'd see him again, but he stayed in my mind until a few months later, when I started to volunteer, to my surprise....there Max was. He was beautiful, but very mealow, looked very sad, and during the whole time that I was volunteering, he never ever barked at me or anyone. As the weeks and months went by, I grew very attached to him as well as the other dogs. He was such a great walker, so gentle, and so sweet. When i found out that a family was interested in him, I became disapointed because I realized that I wouldn't see him again. I cried for days after his leave, but a few weeks later, he was returned to the pound. Apparantely, he had nipped at one of the owners in the household and was going to be put down as a result. However, after days of speaking with the director, I managed to have Max be given a second change, took Max into my home and adopted him. Poppy, our lab, and Max got along incredibly well and on the first night he was home with us, he finally barked. Through the months, Max was our beloved pet and we loved him to the fullest. He had terrifick manners, loyal, gentle, and full of joy. After 6 months however, Max got diagnosed with a heart tumor and he became very very ill one morning. His face was swollen, he bacame lathergic and was in pain. When I bought him to the vet, I had this feeling inside that that would be the last time I'd ever see him, and I think he knew as well because he just kept resting his head on my lap and looking up at me with the saddest look I have ever seen in him over the months I had him. Before they brought him into the back of the hospital to take x-rays, I gave him a kiss on his forehead, and that's when I knew that it would be the last I'd see him awake. The vets had to put him under anasthesia to be able to take lab tests and x-rays because he was very anxious and in pain. Sshortly after, the doctor told us that the cancer had metastisized to other organs and it'd be best to put him down while he was under the anesthetics. My parents and I were devestated and that was the hardest decision to make, to euthanize him. It was very hard for my parents and I , for we don't really support euthanization, and we only hope that our two other loves Poppy and Rex pass away in their sleep when their time comes. We are happy now and know that Max is in a better place, and we couldn't be more happy than to still have a part of him in our home, his ashes. We made him a beautiful cremation ceremony in Princeton NJ and to this day, he is still in my heart and it is why I dedicate this little webpage to my best friend, my companion who made me laugh, who was always there and never left me out of his sight, and my walking partner, Max. We love you Baby Max.
