Arrival Story:
I went to the local humane society aka "pound" looking for a lost dog when I noticed Mocha. I could see her intelligence and kindness through her mangy coat. She was only 5 months old, scared, underweight and her coat was sparse but she was so cute to me. I could tell she was sizing me up as I was looking at her through her cage at the pound. I knew she approved of me because she would wag her tail whenever I approached. I guess she decided we would make a good team. She is no longer a shy, scared, mangy puppy. Mocha is now a happy, healthy, confident adult dog who is the proud adoptive sister/mother of her packmate, Happa.

Mocha looks like she is mixed with some coyote but her disposition is definitely "all dog."

Mocha's Memoirs

Finally...some well-deserved recognition

Yesterday my mom took me for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. The other dogs there were testing to become therapy dogs. The evaluator asked my mom if she wanted me evaluated to become a therapy dog, too, and she said OK. So I went through the motions with ease and passed both tests. I think the evaluator realized I was a good dog and could probably pass easily. That is probably why she suggested to my mom to have me tested for a therapy dog. Soon I will be able to visit people in hospitals and nursing homes.

I am so glad that I did something that Happa hasn't done. Happa has been going to special classes and trainers so she can be in film and television. Everyone has been giving her all the attention and that was making me mad. Now I have something that she doesn't have yet and everyone was petting me and talking about me.

Everyone else is doing fine. Banzai is crazy as ever especially when he sees my mom. She has been watching the Dog Whisperer and every now and then she touches him and goes "SHUSH" to him. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But he is learning that she will give more attention to him if he doesn't jump. However, as soon as she turns around he jumps on her again. It is kind of funny to watch. I think she worries that he may hurt his back if he jumps too much. But she must remain "calm and assertive" that is how she was with me and look how good I turned out.

Happa is getting so stuck up now that she is taking acting lessons. I keep her real and let her know that she is still just another dog. My mom has been working with me, too, so everyone will see that I may be old but I can still learn a new trick or two.

When Happa goes to her classes my dad stays with me and watches football or takes me to grandma's where I play with Banzai and Patches. That is better than school.

Banzai came back today and my mom took him to the vet. I heard she told the vet that I sneak around at night and eat everything. I can even open a jar of peanuts. Then tonight I heard her tell our neighbor that I am obese. Hey who is she to talk...anyway, I hear that we are going to go to the Rose Bowl more often so we can get more exercise. We might even do more run/walks together.
