So, I saw Dr. Chicken Strippy. First, I just gotta share. i remembered Dr. chicken strippy. Mom was shocked. If you know me, the humans don't excite me too much BOL! Well, when he came into the room, I was wagging and butt wiggling and I whined a little bit, and ran up to him. He said he remembered me too! He said you are the beagle that looks like a puppy and eats like a horse BOL! he remembered mom naming him Dr. Chicken Strippy for me hehehehehehe
Ok...so he he thinks I have bells palsy. He did a lot of nerve touch tests. I definitely have feeling in my ear, nose, top of my head. It's pretty much isolated to my right cheek, lower, upper lip, and right eye.
He checked my ears and said they looked great. He said he didn't believe it was a tumor because we would most likely see more neurologically. He did a full body neurological test and it's just isolated to the right side of my face.
Mom asked if it would go away and he said it's about a 50/50 chance and there was a small chance it would go to the other side of my face. If I am going to get better, it would be in the 8-12 week range, sometimes it happens earlier.
If mom sees any change neurologically or I become depressed, my behavior changes, he wants to see me again.
Not the best diagnosis, but given the other possible diagnosis, this is as good as it gets.
So, I can tell ya that you can't really tell the right side of my face is paralyzed unless I'm panting. It's really noticeable then. You might also notice I don't wink at ya with my right eye. ;) Oh and about the fact my eye isn't blinking. He did a tear stain/dry eye test and I'm still producing tears in that right. He did say if mom notices changes in the eye, it's time for artificial tears. He said there are 3 nerves that control the muscles in the face...it doesn't think it's all three nerves because I'm at least on day 5 and I'm still producing tears. So that's a good thing =;
I think that's it. As far as we can tell, I'll be a-okay. No one knows what causes Bells Palsy, but this is better than the C word.
I pawmise to update this diary if there are any changes.
And BP is exactly what a wonderful old time dogster Mum has just come down with.. TedEbears Mum Juanita!!!
I knew as soon as I read the symptoms in Part 1 it sounded SO the same.
Her's has come just as swiftly too
This isnt the worst diagnosis in the world. It isnt good.. but this as your vet said has a 50/50.. and it can be maintained as well.
Hang in there ...... there is lots of good can happen here.
Love and HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Thanks Pam! I never heard of it for dogs. Another Dogster friend mentioned it too and wondered. It was kind of weird when dr Gainsburg said it BOL. I hope I get the feeling back but if not, you know I will be taken care of. Big hugs and licks for flicka!
I think you'll be just fine. You have all of your dogster friends sending you love and POTP.
That's really not bad news at all, Scooter. As Dr. Chicken Strippy said, it is very common for it to clear up by itself before long. And even if it doesn't, it's not something that is too difficult to live with, either for you or for your Moms.
You'll be in our prayers every day! *hugs*
Gosh, Scooter, we just read this post as we haven't been on Dogster much due to the extreme heat and no a/c in computer room.
We're very sorry to hear you're having problems and hope it does clear up on its own as your neurologist said it might.
Keeping our paws crossed that everything will be ok and know what good care your Mom will take of you.
We'll be thinking of you and sending lots of POTP your way!
Thanks guys. I didn't tell many because I didn't want my pals to worry. I will say it seemed to come on suddenly, but I'm glad mom saw it. You would have to be paying attention to realize something was wrong. Love you guys
Scooter, keeping paws crossed for you that all will be well!
Scooter,we are so sorry you are not feeling well. Sending Akita Hugs and Kisses as well as paw power to you. Get better soon little one.
Thanks Annie, Mika and Kai...I appreciate it. Big hugs!
I am so glad it wasn't the "C" word. Things haven't always been easy for you Scooter but you always have a great attitude and always think of others.
Keep getting better and keeping us posted.
