Arrival Story: I work for the PA State Police and read an article in our monthly newsletter about dogs they had available at the academy for adoption. So, on March 18, 2004, I decided to take a road trip with my friend Laurie to see the dogs that were available at the State Police Academy in Hershey, Pennsylvania. I was only supposed to go and look (as per my husband) because we lost our adopted dog Zack to cancer just three months prior. At first, the trooper brought out a huge black German Shepherd but, we just didn't click. So, I asked him if he had any Labs and he returned with Cosmo. Well, that was it, as soon as I looked into his eyes I fell in love with him. He had been training to be a bomb dog but, flunked! All I had to do was sign a waiver stating that I wouldn't use him as a bomb dog and he was mine. He rode home with Laurie and I in my car and he was just crazy. We laughed at him the entire ride home, he was licking my hair as I was driving, trying to come up front and sit on Laurie's lap, drinking her soda from McDonalds and searching the car for leftover french fries. He was a kennel dog, he had never been with a family or in a house for that matter! He was just about 16 months old and all he wanted was to be loved. So, I brought him home, renamed him Cosmo (after Kramer on Seinfeld) and showed him what is was like to live in a house with a family that loved him.
Bio: Cosmo died peacefully in his sleep on the evening of September 30, 2005, after a short battle with Lymphosarcoma. He will forever have a special place in our hearts.

The photo that I took of you and your human brother, Cody, won first place in Orthodogs' Silver Lining's Photo Contest! I didn't even know until I got home tonight and there was a huge package addressed to Dad. I openend it up and read this nice note from OSL's Brenda congratulating us on our win and inside was a beautiful handmade dog bed. You would have loved it. Cody took it right up to his room and gave it to our newly adopted dog, Kasey. I couldn't believe it buddy-that picture is my all time favorite! It truly captured the love that Cody still has for you, he misses you so much and gets teary eyed when we talk about you. We still love you and wish that you were still here with us my friend. I will always treasure that photo, as well as all the great memories that you gave us in your short time here with us.
Love you buddy,
Mom
And to all other Dogster's out there, Orthodogs' Silver Lining was started by a small group of people who wanted to find a way to provide some relief for caregivers who were struggling to help their pets lead a healthy life. Back on October 23, Joy posted an article about this contest in the Dog Blog and we're so happy she did. This is a great organization. Check out their website:
We're so happy to learn that our sweet Angel Cosmo officially won the Dogster.com "Firehouse Dog" sweepstake. Cosmo will be featured on the film's end credits when it is released on DVD in 2007.
Cosmo truly is a great animal spirit and we're so happy that he will be honored in Todd Holland's FIREHOUSE DOG, a family action-adventure comedy about Hollywood's biggest box-office star, who just happens to be a dog. We can't wait to see all the Dogsters in the end titles of FIREHOUSE DOG and on the DVD.
