Arrival Story:
Zack was adopted from the Luzerne County S.P.C.A. on February 8, 1995. He was abandoned at the shelter with his mother and siblings on a cold February night, left outside in a box where the workers found them in the morning. He was sickly, malnourished and full of worms. He was not even available for adoption. When I arrived to photograph pets for my weekly "Pets of the Week" column, a worker told me about the mother and pups that she found in a box when she arrived for work. I just had to see them. She took me back to where they were and I instantly fell in love with the only solid black puppy. I went home and told my husband about the pup and he went back to the SPCA with me. I begged them to let me adopt the pup and promised that I when we left the shelter with him that we would take him directly to our vet for care. So, they let us adopt him, we got him the care he needed and within a few days he was acting like a normal 8 week old puppy.

Bio:
Zack thought Shelbi was his mother and he loved to play and swim with her. They were best friends. He would normally wait for her to retrieve the stick from the river and then grab onto it when she brought it back towards the shore. Sadly, our boy Zack passed away on December 8, 2003. He died from a carcinoma tumor/cancer but, did not suffer. He was a brave boy to the end and we miss him dearly.
