Arrival Story:
Katie needed to go to a new home, because she was taken away from her owner, who didn't take care of her. The day I met her, she came running at me with her puppy legs flopping out to the sides like Bambi and a massive smile on her face. She just kept running back and forth and up and down like that. I fell in love that instant with my floppy little girl. She has been through more with me than anyone else in my life.

Bio:
Katie has been all over the world and the US with me. She even got herself a brother in Australia. Katie has never done a bad thing in her life. She is the most amazing dog in the world and sensitive to the tiniest shred of any emotion. She also has a vocabulary that is more comprehensive than many children. Now, at 16, she is nearly deaf, has one prosthetic eye, is partially senile, and moves a lot slower, but her spirit and her health are unchanged. She and I are attached at the hip. I can't move a single step without her following me, and I don't think we could live without each other. She is everything that is good in me. She is my soul.

Dramatics at study time

Mommy is in school to be a V-E-T, and while mommy V-E-Ts are the best, cause you don't have to go anywhere, you do lose the drama factor (which can be made up for in so many other ways). In the capacity of drama queen, my best repertoire of dramatic faces consists of "happy face" , when I show my brothers all my teeth so they go away, my rain or bath "drowned rat" face and my "surely you can't be talking to me" face whenever I am "told" to do anything. My best repertoire of dramatic vocalizations are, well, at every indignity and insult I suffer at the paws of my brothers. I also like to sit in front of her and keep giving her high fives til she looks at me. For special occasions and LOTS LOTS LOTS of attention, I pull out my coyote howl when mommy comes home, to show her how happy I am to see her, and how much I missed her. Talk about putty in your paws.... I could go on and on, but Mommy says to get off the computer so she can study. That, of course, will call for major drama - the old "paw -across -the -books" trick (I do that several dozen times, til she either puts them down, or I have to resort to laying on them), some nudging of the elbow so she can't type, perhaps knocking everything off the desk, and for the grand finale, the big sulk in the corner and the refusal to even look in her direction.

Be still my beating heart

Mommy and Daddy just came home with a green soda bottle for me! It is going to be a belated present, since Mommy says she has to empty it first. I told her to just empty it into my big white porcelain water bowl in the bathroom, but she says she wants to drink whatever is in there first. It looks like water, so I don't really know why she just doesn't empty it now. Oh well, it'll be like having another birthday in a few days. Mommy and Daddy also brought home these funny looking things for themselves, and when I asked what they were, they said that they are "chilly dogs". First of all, if we went outside, we would be "chilly dogs", so I don't know why they went and bought more, especially ones that don't look anything like dogs. Then I asked what they were going to do with them. I thought maybe they were going to play with them, or pet them, or give them treats, or adopt them or something. Then, horror of horrors, they said they were going to......Oh, I can't say it.... they are going to......AAARRRGGGHHHHHH.....they are going to EAT them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shame of shames, oh cruel world, is that a dagger I see before me? Et tu, Brute? Woe is me. I think I am going to run away tonight. You think you know your people, and after 12 years, this is how they repay me. To add insult to injury, they asked me (please, all dogs, please stop reading right now, or put on your earmuffs) they actually asked me if I wanted a bite! Hellooooo, parents - can you say cannibal? Have you ever heard the word do-mes-ti-ca-ted???? It happened hundreds of years ago, wake up! Mommy better take a break from studying all the time - I think she has finally cracked. Daddy has no excuse. I will write again, that is, if I make it through the night. I hope I don't wake up covered in chopped onions. I will sleep with one eye open tonight..... Keep a lookout, pals, and don't stay outside in the cold too long, lest your parents think you are "chilly dogs" too. What a way to end a birthday! If I survive the feeding frenzy, I will have Mommy post a picture of me with my green birthday froggie.
Good night and sleep not-so-tight, Katie

Birthday Presents - yippee

Oh my Dog - I am so happy. Today, I went to Petsmart with Mommy and Daddy. I got to walk around the whole store. I saw cats, birds, little fuzzy balls that Daddy said were "hamsters" (but they didn't smell like ham, so I don't really know what that means) and lots of other dogs shopping just like me. I picked out a green frog that says "Ribbit, ribbit" when I squeeze his tummy. It is so funny. Mommy says we will save that for tonight, so I can relax and play with him in peace without my brothers stealing him. I also got a huge bag of rawhides (chicken flavor -YUM) and I am eating one right now. I let all my brothers have one too. Daddy says its the only time the house is ever quiet. I will probably have a few more tonight by myself - I don't want to share the whole bag, and Mommy says birthday princesses don't have to. I also got a rosette from my new pal Misty. Today is her birthday too! I will send her a rosette back as soon as I figure out how. We are both seniors, so we are extra special. Mommy says we are like fine wine - HOLD ON - did someone say wine?????? I haven't had my Twinkie yet, but Daddy did sneak me some cookies this morning! Well, two of my brothers are already finished with their rawhides. Zor is looking at me like he is ready to cry. He is laying next to me and he keeps sniffing my rawhide. I think I will give him one of my extra special "happy faces". There. That worked. Mokka is finished with his too, but I will keep chewing on mine for hours. Everybody is always jealous of me for taking my time, but I know how to make good things last. Schultzie is like me - he takes his time too. Well, Mommy says its rude to type with my mouth full, so if I get any other birthday surprises, I will let you know. Mommy and Daddy say this birthday is a very special one, since I have had so many already. (Not that I don't get everything I want, anytime I want it, every other dayof the year). Oh yeah, I forgot - I got a birthday card from Grandma and Grandpa! They said lots of nice (i.e. nice = true) things about me.
Bark at you soon, Katie
