Arrival Story:
When I drove to work every day, I saw her on the street, usually in the same area. One day I walked and fed her some dog food I had in my pocket just for that purpose. She scarfed it down. Then for weeks, I didn't see her. As I was driving home on Thanksgiving night, she was back in her spot. I stopped my car and called to her. She came running over, followed me home and never left.

Maya was one of the most loyal and loving dogs I've had. She suffered greatly in the short time I had her. First, she came down with parvo only a month after living with me. We managed to cure that, but three months later, she began showing signs of distemper. Despite a month long, intensive battle, I finally made the decision to have her put to sleep. She could no longer eat, drink or walk on her own. The deterioration was extremely rapid and literally happened overnight. Up until that day though, for me and me alone, she would manage to drag herself up to greet me when I came home.
